    Default Daewoo Racer/Cielo Fan Club

    Dear All,

I am an owner of Daewoo Racer since 1995. It has proven to be a very comfortable and economical car throughout this period. It used to give an average of 13Km/L within city and ~15Km/L on long drives. Here are some pictures:

    Dear Asad,

First of all, try spraying Carb Cleaner on the sides of the water pump and after some time, try removing it and slowly hammering it on the body of water pump. With little effort, it should be removed. If still it is stuck, remove the main suction pipe from behind (located right beneath the alternator) the water pump and insert wooden rod (hammer with wooden handle can be used in reverse direction) into the hole and using hammer, hit it with gradual force and it shall come out after some effort.

    WAS,

Welcome to DFC. Regarding the problem, is starter turning or not? Do you hear any clicking sound when turning key? Your problem can vary from faulty ignition switch to faulty starter! You can go to any daewoo mechanic mentioned at page 3 of DFC.

Default Engine Oil light Stays Longer+Dashboard Screws

    Dear testdriver,
Hope you are in good health!
1 -My car engine oil light dissappears almost after 10-15 seconds with some initial tak tak noise and depends on car parking time, possible reasons please? engine head is kabli and in good health. there is no oil consumption or any smoke.
2- What is the function of screws(2 big and 4 small), fixed on the dashboard top around the hollowed location of taxi meter.
3- What holds the whole dashboard, if screws what is the locaton so as to tighten them.?

    Regards,

    Regards,
    Al-Hamdo-Lillah I am fine.

    Regarding the issues:
    1. It is probably either faulty oil filter, even thicker engine oil or even weak oil pump. Get them checked one by one in the mentioned sequence.

    2. These screws are just covering the holes for meter bracket.

    3. I haven't seen any dashboard being opened in front of me, but for tightening I have observed three nuts from firewall side just beneath the windscreen, one bolt on left and right sides of the dashboard and two nuts behind the glove box. Hope this helps.

Recently I changed the head cam assembly of my car with the kabli one...the reason being the last head was weak.. Even after changing it the car heats up after running for 6 or 7 miles n then the pick reduces.. N the fan is direct...what could be other possible reasons for this heating. Coz on motor way at 120 speed the car needle should b way below the white mark with direct blow of air from front plus fan but it was still stuck at white mark. The mechanics in lhr have failed to diagnose the problem... The car run fine for the initial 6 to 7 miles n then this problem starts.. All the sensor start malfunctioning too ... Could it be distributor heating up or wiring fault..

Good work! You almost replaced everything except the tie-rod ends and center mount . Btw what did you mean by gearbox overhaul?

As far as you mentioned regarding the brake pads, did you got the rotors tooled? If yes, the brake will settle after some time. If not, the calipers needs new kit! Regarding denter/painter, "good" is rather a relative term. I have seen some nice work by the denter and painter at Tahir's workshop. For side panels, you can contact a poshish maker if he can do the repair job. Lastly, it would be difficult for me to personally have a look at you car these days, but you can any time pm me here. I almost daily visit PW.

    WAS,

First of all, the temperature needle should not be anywhere within the white area during engine operation (except when the engine is cold). Actually the white area indicates a cold engine. If it is so, either the gauge is faulty of the thermostat valve is stuck open. Secondly, if all these symptoms arise when the car is moving, the problem is either the vehicle speed sensor of the coolant temperature sensor. Does the CEL show up during the problem? If yes, read out the codes and then try to diagnose the problem. Yes, all these problems can be due to hacked/faulty wiring or even the ECM might be problematic. Distributor module either works or stops working, there is no third behavior, so it is not the culprit. Yes, you can get the plugs checked if they are not having compatible heat range (6 in case of Daewoo engine)

Most probably thicker oil has been poured in. BTW which oil did you use to top-up the reservoir? As per manual, it need 'Dexron-II D' oil. You can check zic or caltex line up for that. BTW, I have used this oil and works fine.

this problem is going on since last year..and as a result of this i had to do engine over haul and later change the head assembly with a kabli one...but the pressure is till building up inside the water bottle and it starts boiling before the needle reaches the mid mark...i ran honda civic 98 in isl yesterday and its temperature needle hardly fluctuated except at noon with auto fan...where as in my car even with direct fan the needle goes up to white area...and at that point the car jerks and misses ....last year i tried replacing vss and even cts but the problem wasnt solved i thought head was weak and the culprit ..but why is it building pressure ...lastly the engine gets heavy and some times stalls too...i think the current is not being propagated correctly..but im not able to pinpoint which wiring may be causing this ..fuse box or computer..as the engine gets heavy the petrol guage even tells the incorrect level of petrol and after some times gets ok...

Well got all the seals and stuff replaced.Gear bush were worn off..Its now working perfectly.Daewoo has 3 mounts i think..All engine mounts have been replaced(tie rod end set aswell) and resultantly the idling is superb/noiseless.Got 3 door windows machines replaced, front wheels aligned..The important work now is denting/painting.I will replace all headlights, break lights and side indicators.I would like to install original daewoo's side mirrors if possible because they are the only ones who compliment daewoo looks.

the only problem now is finding a reliable denter painter..Some1 told me federal autos have good painting facility but costs a fortune.

@testdriver i want to buy new tyres for my Daewoo..The manufacturer recommends 155 80 r13 tyres which are currently equipped on my car..But i think they are small considering the car size..I have never seen a woo equipped with 155/80 they are always wide..what do you recommend?

Did this start happening after installation of cng timing retarder? If yes, get it bypassed for a while and check for the problem. The installer must have cut the EST (purple wire) and routed it via retarder. You are probably getting error 42 as described here.

The manufacturer recommends both 155/80 R13 and 175/70 R13 for the racer. You can opt for any one of these.
