    Default Daewoo Racer/Cielo Fan Club

    Dear All,

    I am an owner of Daewoo Racer since 1995. It has proven to be a very comfortable and economical car throughout this period. It used to give an average of 13Km/L within city and ~15Km/L on long drives. Here are some pictures:

    I would recommend buying this car who want a better car at low budgets!

    Any member having used a Daewoo car must share their experience....(y)

    (y)..You are welcome here!....Regarding brakes, many people have changed the servo and master cylinder and they are quite happy with them. If want to keep the stock accessories, get the brakes regularly services atleast 3 months or so, and another thing, when the brakes are applied too much (like in hilly areas), they are prone to heat up. In such cases, give them a rest to let them cool, and then continue the journey......

    I think if you opt for purchasing the parts yourself, it will really be a headache for you to even collect each and every bolt and going to the parts dealer again and again. You will save some money, but spending a lot of time and efforts...So I recommend to let him arrange the parts and you will be having complete peace of mind!

    Bundle of Thanks @ testdrive

    My Bro also had an army scheme Daewoo, he sold it last year, with only 45000 kms driven, for 350000. It was in excellent condition and the first person who came to see it bought it. I personally think that my bro could have got 370000 for it.

    You brother was lucky that he got Rs.3.5Lac of his Daewoo. Now a days, the car market is in crisis phase, and it is not a good time to sell car, although buying is better!

    thanks testdriver for your help. unfortunatly we had a little setback few days back(i keep refering "we" cause actually my father drives daewoo) its AC compressor stoped working. original costs around 16000 (too much) another ac expert said than he can install sandan compressor in it. expert suggestion?
    and about steering- can one get new daewoo power steering assembly?

    i saw a funny/amazing thing on my way to work today. car going infront of me looked like corolla 99or 2000 model but something about its trunk was not normal as i saw its monogram it was a daewoo. that person had placed corolla 99 back lights to his daewoo(dont know about front). although looked bit out of place but workmanship was quite impressive.

    @kashmir1Go to Federal automobiles,and purchase a second hand qabli one.If you purchase a new one the total cost with installation and gas charges is around Rs.18000/-.If you go for Qabli one with installation & gas charges is around Rs.8000/-These prices are some 8 months old when my friend`s Daewoo Racer`s A/C compressor got jammed and he got it replaced by qabli one from Federal Automobiles Phone no 051-4443594.
    Main reason for jamming of the compressor is that it generates a lot of heat while functioning and air flow to it is less(Normal sedan,Honda & Toyota,compressor`s work on principle of vacuum via single valve piston aquiring compression whereas Daewoo racer`s compressor has five cylinder blocks comprising of pistons which move up and down to compress gas individually(same design priciple as compressor`s used in domestic designed A/C units for Home & commercial Use).Benefit over other compressor is that even after usage for 5 -8 years its cooling capacity remains same whereas other type compressor losses its cooling capacity by 20-40% as vacuum pressure valve becomes weak).Secodly using compressor with low or no gas damages it.
    Install a Cutout worth Rs.200/- with your A/C clutch so that it should recieve full current to engage and thus reduces chance of tripping of clutch usually which ends up in A/C Clutch damage and finally leads to its jamming.
    Intall an extra fan with cutout worth Rs.1000/- so that it should enhance your cooling and provide air to compressor.
    While buying second hand compressor,check that compressor has no leakage after providing it check pressure.All Wire connections are connected properly to compressor and that he has not placed wire in between jumper connectors of compressor while connecting it to the compressor(this denotes that one of the switches located in the compressor is faulty(There are two jacks located on the compressor`s back facing Lt wheel--1 is to turn the A/C On and one to recognize A/C Gas pressure,type of safety valve,this also turns the fan On).Mostly compresser starts and trips so they put a wire in between the safety switch jack,so that the system gets a message that all is fine and A/C is turned on with the Fan(Cause can be faulty switch which can be replaced without opening compressor or the jack is not properly locked in place).Sometimes even after confirming every thing is in working order,the compressor still trips.In this condition,mostly it can be due to vacuum/pressure switch located in the compressor which can be removed without opening the compressor.If this is the problem then ask him to replace the compressor as mostly this is a compressor which got jammed and has been repaired by them or by the Sultan Ka Kaah dealers. Check AC clutch sound after installation and the piston sleeve damage sound which can be haerd by taking vehicle RPM from 1000-4000.It is type of ticking sound as two steel objects are hitting each other.If heard,for confirmation remove A/c belt and repeat procedure,the sound will be absent if its the Compressor sound.For sound removal,if a/c clutch,it can be changed with other one but if still persists after clutch replaced then it is the compressor piston sleeves and you should immediatly get the compressor placed.Mechanics will dodge you by saying this is normal but you can confirm by testing a normal vehicle.
    You should before going for second hand compressor already talk about these terms of replacement of compressor if problem is found during installation.

    @hsnmz
    My car brakes are fine,only should be careful on hilly areas while coming down try to give rest to brakes during braking by apllying a hard brake and then letting the car move down hill without providing acceleration, if still too fast then place vehicle in 1st gear or if needed turn your vehicle A/C.(For Steep Hills).you can judge the car brakes heating up by feeling the brake pedal becoming hard.If so apply above procedure or stop vehicle for 15min.(Do not place water over wheels as this damages your disc rotors--defaces them and mostly cracks & hardens the discpads).The gear used for coming downhill is judged by you at the time of decent.Mostly it is the gear you use to go up hill on that region but may vary for Daewoo.After mild heatup of disc pads it is recommended that you get your front disc calipers serviced and lubricated.
    My vehicle brakes work like a toyota at any speed.What you need to do:-
    1.Change Front Disc Rotors(Around Rs.2200/-)
    2.Change Rear Disc Drums(Around Rs.2400/-)
    3.Front Disc Pads Geniune(Around Rs.1400/-)
    4.Rear Disc Leathers Geniune(Around Rs. 700/-)
    5.Check & Lubricate all brake calipers.

    @shahabrk
    You can install 5 gear box from second hand market for around Rs.8000/- but watch out for defective or damaged gear boxes

    Well explained!

    @all

    Qabli parts work better if they are in good condition, otherwise, they create troubles one after the other..... If you find a part in a good condition, there is no harm to pay Rs.300-400/=(if demanded) extra than a part in bad condition.....

    @akif

    Yes, I have service manuals with one of my friend. @nascar has got it copied, so he also has the manual copy!

    I am a Daewoo fan too. We had a 1996 registered Daewoo Racer, we kept the car for 6 years. From 96 to 02. It was a power pack. Have to say that Racer has the best ride. And the engine power is awsome. It was one of the first cars to be converted to CNG. I really miss the car.

    Always get the calipers serviced with every disk pad change, for better braking, otherwise you might lose the diskpads much earlier than they should be! You should also adjust the drum setting according to the hand brake position, if it is not in it's place!

    For the past two days, I am after the Alloys project. Got a set of alloy wheels for evaluation of 3 days. Got them Wheel Balanced, and they are fine....but not 100%. There is a minor vibration around 90Km/H and vanishes rest of the meter.....

    Same issue i was having with alloys.You can use them but its quite irritating while diving at this specific speed.You will decrease life of your tyrod ends and d-bush.Also not knowing what type of pressure it will exert on the vehicle chassis plus it d-faces your disc rotors.
