Korando=a peculiar name derived from "Korea can do"
The Korando project started as an idea in the early '90s, founded on the historic lines of the famous Willys Jeep from World War II. The name Korando comes from the production by SsangYong for many years of a licensed version of the AMC Jeep for the Korean domestic market.
The SsangYong Korando is a small 3-door 4x4 SUV and designed by englishman Ken Greenly. It featured a choice of 2.3 L and 3.2 L gasoline engines or 2.9 L diesel engine, all sourced from Mercedes Benz.
A badge engineered version was sold as the Daewoo Korando. The Daewoo Korando (was Ssangyong Korando) is said to have been inspired by the Jeep Wrangler and shares something of the latter's looks.
