    wind noise or mechanical noise?
    where is it coming from?
    can you describe it?

    Show it to Storm you are not too far away, I am sure he will gide you better. It could be the differential, It could be the Axels, breaks, crank shaft, and the list goes on and on. It can be much simpler such as wind deflecting from rear view mirrors, a lose guard under the engine etc.

    Although They are designed to be very quiet and smooth. The mirrors are placed such that they hardly make very loud noise, I have had a 1999 year C 230, the car is superb and the ride exhilerating, it really is disturbing to hear that your car is giving out noises, did you take it to ShahNawaz workshop??? try it.

    i think the guy you bought the car from is a muppet. the button on the bottom of your accelerator is the kickdown switch which is present in almost all auto mercs from the 70's.

    as for the noise it seems it's just the noise from the engine which sadly is quite a roarer. as mentioned earlier the car is most likely in "S" mode and this is why it does not wish to change gear.

    in 2000 (if i'm not mistaken) the selector next to the gear should be "S" and "W", which stand for Summer and Winter. "S" starts in 1st gear and needs revs to switch to the next gear (meaning it holds gears longer) whereas "W" mode starts in 2nd gear and switches gears much earlier on in the rev bend.

    what you are describing is that you car is not shifting gears correctly and for that you need to take it to MB or any qualified MB mechanic. there is a silver pipe coming into your engine bay from the gearbox and it has a red plastic cap. that it to adjust your gearbox, do NOT attempt to do it yourself whatever you do. let a professional handle this.

    Ishoudl point out that even though MB claim that their gearboxes are "sealed for life" it is advisable that you get the transmission fluid changed every 60,000 and if your car hasn't had this done (or you are not sure) and you have crossed that milage you shoudl get it done ASAP or you can run into alot more problems.

    sometimes you will hear a strange mechanical humming noise from under the rear seat, that is normal for some model mercs to do and has to do with the charging system.

    let me know if there is anything else i can help you out with at any time.

    good luck and happy driving.

    (please note the in this model C-class the buttons may still be "S" & "E" which stand for sport and economy modes but the principle is the same as "S" & "W" modes)

    @storm:
    I remember when we used to have a 1991 300E 4MATIC, there used to be a wind nose that would come and disappear... It was like a deep whistle

    What could that be from? It seems wind noise is common in Mercedes- if so, why?

    @sxtreem
    have sent you an email.

    As for the button, nothing will happen when on the move. You heve to put the car in "P" to switch modes.

    stick you are talking about is the cruise control, up to accelerate and set the speed, down to decelerate ans set the speed. during oppperation you can also use the floor pedals to over ride the system: accelerator to increase your speed temporarily (however when you leave the throttle it will return to the set speed), but braking will totally override the system and deactivate the cruise control every time it is pressed. it is a safety feature.

    @bilaltq
    the W124 is inherently noisy, which is surprising for a car with a Cd of 0.31, not sure why though. i'm gueswsing it has alot to do with the wing mirrors and rear window as these are the places i hear noise in my W124.

    @Storm, Sxtreem

    The button also works on the move. You can clearly feel the difference under full acceletaion(but without pressing on the kickdown), where in W the car will shift to next gear somewhere around 5 to 5.5k Rpms, while in S it will go up to the redline.

    Also as Storm already mentioned, in W mode from standstill it starts from second gear instead of the first. You can however still engage the first gear by using the kickdown.

    All of this still doesnt explain why your car is at 6k Rpms at 120km, and not changing to a higher gear. Get it checked asap.

    @ahmadbila
    You can lower the seat position to accomodate yourself.

    reading from replies seems to me OD or whatever mercs have for shortest gear is not engaging

    on 2nd thought nobody mentioned anything about fuel economy if engine is reving high ,,

    is the fuel economy dropped too this would mean its definatly running on large gear on high speeds.
