This thread is for the Tata nano fans for the latest news, photos and discussions about the car.

"A promise is a promise", this is what Ratan Tata (chairman Tata Group) has said about the 1 lakh price tag of the Tata nano car when it was unvielded at the 2008 Auto Expo in New Delhi.

The Tata nano has been the center of attaction of the World media. The 'People's Car' as Mr. Ratan Tata calls the nano, is available for booking from 9'th April 2009.

    Performance & Specifications:

The 2-cylinder engine – delivering 35 PS @ 5250 rpm and a torque of 48 Nm @ 3000 rpm – enables the car to have a top speed of 105 kmph (limited electronically) and negotiate inclines with a gradeability of 30%.

    Fuel efficiency:

23.6 km/litre, certified by the Automotive Research Association of India (ARAI) under mandated test conditions, which is the highest for any petrol car in India.

    Emission:

The high fuel efficiency, coupled with a low kerb weight of 600 kg, ensures that the Tata Nano – at 101gm/km - has the CO2 emission of cars in India. The Tata Nano is BS-III (Bharat Stage III) compliant and is BS-IV ready. It is also available in BS-II norms.

    Safety:

The Tata Nano’s safety performance exceeds current regulatory requirements – it passes the roll-over test and offset impact, which are not regulated in India. It has an all sheet-metal body, reinforced passenger compartment, crumple zones, intrusion-resistant doors, besides mandatory seat belts and complies fully with existing Indian safety standards. Tubeless tyres – among which the rear ones are wider endowing extra stability – enhance safety.

Warranty: 18 months or 24,000 km

    , whichever is earlier.

Even when a car like the Adam Revo could have a Fan Clun, why not for Tata nano?

Yes, the nano won't be exported to Pakistan but will be exported to other countries in many parts of the world including Europe.

I don't know what you are up to. You do not have any right to disgrace Adam Revo like that. I am not surprised to see people's lack of interest in this thread. I mean, why would anyone become a fan of something which neither is important nor available in Pakistan.

I think, you should give yourself a break and create a fan club thread where it actually matters (in India).

Maybe or not to other countries! Let's wait in coming time how Tata manages Nano exporting to other countries. As far as I know, Nano cannot be exported to well-developed countries in Europe by 2010.

Well-developed countries are still working hard to unveil electric cars and same size of nano which would be manufactured in their own countries. Due to bad economy, they are trying to make cheap cars with low powered engines. They will roll out their cheap cars on their roads in coming years so how it can be possible for nano.

Estimated 1 MILLION bookings for the Tata nano!!!

MUMBAI: The booking for the world's cheapest car Nano launched by the Tatas has ended but the numbers are still being counted, a Tata Motors
    spokesperson said.

The market estimates on the bookings vary from as few as a couple of lakhs to over one million.

Tata motors itself has not given any information so far. The spokesperson said the company is still compiling the number and the exercise may take a few days.

Enquiries with some of the banks with which the company has tied up for booking and financing of the car also failed to reveal any information on the number of bookings.

However, carwale.com, one of the websites which accepted online booking for Nano, said it has done 10,000 bookings of Tata's Nano car.

"We have secured 10,000 bookings of Nano across 500 cities," carwale.com Vice-President Tufail Khan told PTI.

He said 50 per cent of the booking has been done through credit cards and the rest through cheque payment.

About 55 per cent of the bookings have been for the top- end version of the Nano, 25 per cent for the middle version and the remaining 20 per cent is for the base model.

be a sport. why so negative?

by the way, everybody laughed at Ratan Tata when he dreamed of the the Indica more than 10 years back, and now see how Tata motors have learnt over the years. Same sarcastic story was repeated when he announced of the Tata nano. everyone made fun of his dream.

only when you dream can you next think of how to achieve that impossible dream.

think positive brother else the battle is lost in the mind itself. do you think Toyota, Honda or Hyundai just came into existance with the flick of a magic switch?

The Tata nano is symbolic of what Indian dreams can achieve

    nano is no different

its *** man, i am done.

660 cc suzuki twin is far better option than any tata birla ambani bajaj nano - shano

maruti suzuki are u listening ? just make a larger wheelbase 4 seater maruti suzuki twin priced even Rs. 15,000 higher than nano and nano and its class bites the dust.

I repeat, Toyota, Honda, Hyundai weren't created in a day

just like "Rome wasn't created in a day" & remember that "The longest journey begins with a small step"

Nobody forces Indian consumers to buy Tata products. Indians can freely chose whatever he/she choses to buy be it Japanese, European, Korean, Japanese, Chinese or Swadeshi.

    TATA NANO Allotments started.

    h2First 100,000 Tata Nano Owners Selected: Tata/h2

The Tata Nano is something of an innovation for the Indian market and earlier we reported that the tiny rear-engine car had received over 2 lakh bookings. Now Tata announces that the company has selected the first 100,000 owners of the Tata Nano using a computerized system of random selection.

The booking process closed on April 25, 2009 and of the total number of applicants, about 67 percent chose the option to retain their booking amounts with the company even if they weren’t selected in the first 100,000. From the 137,587 who opted for this, allotments have been made for 55,021 retainees.

Tata will be individually informing each applicant as to which category they fall under, an allotee, an unsuccessful applicant or a retainee. Alternatively, eager applicants can enter their booking application number at the official website in order to find out their status.

Tata ensures that the first 100,000 selected owners will receive their Nanos at ex-showroom prices. With Nano deliveries scheduled to begin in July 2009, the first 100,000 cars are expected to be delivered by the last quarter of 2010. The 55,021 retainees will receive their cars after the first 100,000 deliveries.

A Big Disappointment for those who booked even taking loan . I read some guys booked 4-5 numbers of nano expecting getting one.some got even the 4 bookings sanctioned!I am sure they will resell the allotment for some premium. Recently ,I got an opportunity to check nano in a showroom(despite the rush!).The car can speed comfortably at 100kmph(acc. to the sales guy)

The car is spacious.the interior space(usable) is 21% more than mehran/maruti 800.mileage is speculated to be around 24-25kmpl. from 2011 ,TATA will be making nano a better built car according to the sales guy there and the car will not be cheaper like these 1 lakh lucky people.

Dream car delivered: Meet the first owners of Nano
    /h1

Mumbai: A gleaming lunar silver-coloured Nano was handed over to a proud owner in Mumbai on Friday to mark the commercial rollout of the jellybean-shaped small car, which has been drawing global attention since the prototype was unveiled last year.

    Ratan Tata

, the chairman of the $62.5-billion Tata group who had promised to deliver what he has been calling the "people's car" at just Rs 100,000 at factory gates, himself handed over the car keys to Ashok Vichare.

He also gave away the keys of the second, sunshine yellow, Nano to Ashish Balakrishnan, while the third went to Kores India.

"There are three things in life which one cherishes: to own a house, buy a car and start a family. For me, the second dream is coming through," Balakrishnan said. "I now hope I can now settle down with a family soon."

Vichare chose to drive the car straight to the Siddhi Vinayak Mandir, a temple dedicated to the elephant god, which is popular among celebrities and the average residents alike.
