Post My Ravi Piaggio Storm 125 - 2012

    Assalamualaikum To All,

Although i had posted a few pics already of my bike, i am starting this thread a bit late after buying ravi piaggio storm 125 just to share the experience.

Previously i owned a Honda Cd 100, Bought Cd 100 in 2006 and kept it for 6 years till 2012, It was an excellent bike and never gave me any kind of trouble for the whole 6 years really went well and even now was in very good genuine condition.

Then after reading many reviews of different bikes on P.W. and looking at different bikes available in the market i went for Ravi Piaggio 125 and bought the bike on Nov 1st 2012. Then sold my Cd 100 to a friend the next week after i bought Piaggio 125.

Here are pics of my bike

    My Ravi Piaggio Storm 125 2012 -1206119

    My Ravi Piaggio Storm 125 2012 -1206120

Some Initial Problems which i had to face.

    1. There where noises from the front wheel bearing at just 200 K.M.
    2. When the bike was just driven 300 K.M. the speedometer cable broke
    3. The tappets adjustment was not good and there was engine noise
    4. Spark Plug quality was not good
    5. Noise was coming from the speedometer

Solutions To the above mentioned Problems.

    1. The front wheel bearings was easily changed by piaggio warranty center under warranty and they are working excellent now
    2. Speedometer cable was also changed under warranty from warranty center and is operating fine now
    3. Tappets they said would be adjusted at 1000 K.M. first service and not to be adjusted before that.
    4. Spark plug would also be changed at 1000 K.M.
    5. The speedometer was touching key hole so they adjusted the speedometer and moved it a bit away from the key hole the noise went away

    Overall Experience

The overall experience of the bike went really well if i had any issue the problem was resolved by the warranty center and any faulty part was easily claimed. Its an excellent bike specially if we see the styling and comfort and there is no bike like Piaggio 125 currently in the Pakistani market and i really enjoy the ride of the bike.

ok, then what do you think about engine response after applying lil heavy rim.tires on it?
do you feel lil lack of power in acceleration and top or do you think its is but with minor differences ?

As this is a new bike engine is fresh so engine is pulling it ok there is difference in acceleration and top a bit not that much if you compare it with stock, you can say that ab engine ko zoor thora ziyada lagana parta hay but as i already said new engine zoor laga raha hay and i also keep the engine maintained timely oil change and everything with free flow exhaust better spark plug and free air flow, but at the end this is not a performance upgrade its more of a cosmetic update not done for more acceleraton or top speed only done to improve looks and it looks dam good and performance is also ok

yes i know this set up is just for looks but when ever you have chance to replace rear sprocket then once try to install 1 or 2 teeth bigger sprocket on this set up, i m sure you will feel it like stock

Default Tuning after 4000 K.M. and front disk pad change

Got the bike tuned today after 4000 K.M. running of the previous tuning

Although i change the oil after every 1000 K.M. but tuning that mainly includes the tappet adjustment was done after 4000 K.M. and had no problem during this period and even now it was ok.

This is one of the good things about this engine doesn't need much adjustments just change the oil keep the spark plug clean that's it no tappet adjustment required or carburetor cleaning or adjustments required, last time i remember i got the carburetor adjusted was about like 5000 K.M. ago may be.

Got the front disk pad's replaced today as the old ones were worn out. Original ravi piaggio disk pads costed me Rs.700/-

why is there a belief in common scooterists that having disc brakes on rear tyre is dangerous, can cause accidents ? is it not safe ?

I have no idea about your first question but regarding the second on. Its all basic ********. I bought have Honda 125 Deluxe a coupe of years back and it had Front Disc Brake. ( I know you asked about rear) but pendo people ******** was all the same. They were all like "No, you are going to flip over. The brake is to strong." When you have it on the rear they are all like "No, you are going to slam it to hard and the bike will slide"

Well, to tell you the trust. ******** all of it. Their is no other brake like having a disc brake. You can stop on a dime. Obviously if you are going 100 km/ H and you slam one brak rear or front you are going to flip out. But you need to learn to use it. Took me about 3 hour before I was comfortable with mine. Been riding since I was 13 and only had 1 accident when I rear ended a car and that was on a 70 CC.

How much did it cost you except the tyre price, mechanic or other alterations required to get it running? How much in total did the rear tyre mod cost including the mechanic labour?
