Post My Ravi Piaggio Storm 125 - 2012

    Assalamualaikum To All,

Although i had posted a few pics already of my bike, i am starting this thread a bit late after buying ravi piaggio storm 125 just to share the experience.

Previously i owned a Honda Cd 100, Bought Cd 100 in 2006 and kept it for 6 years till 2012, It was an excellent bike and never gave me any kind of trouble for the whole 6 years really went well and even now was in very good genuine condition.

Then after reading many reviews of different bikes on P.W. and looking at different bikes available in the market i went for Ravi Piaggio 125 and bought the bike on Nov 1st 2012. Then sold my Cd 100 to a friend the next week after i bought Piaggio 125.

Here are pics of my bike

    My Ravi Piaggio Storm 125 2012 -1206119

    My Ravi Piaggio Storm 125 2012 -1206120

Some Initial Problems which i had to face.

    1. There where noises from the front wheel bearing at just 200 K.M.
    2. When the bike was just driven 300 K.M. the speedometer cable broke
    3. The tappets adjustment was not good and there was engine noise
    4. Spark Plug quality was not good
    5. Noise was coming from the speedometer

Solutions To the above mentioned Problems.

    1. The front wheel bearings was easily changed by piaggio warranty center under warranty and they are working excellent now
    2. Speedometer cable was also changed under warranty from warranty center and is operating fine now
    3. Tappets they said would be adjusted at 1000 K.M. first service and not to be adjusted before that.
    4. Spark plug would also be changed at 1000 K.M.
    5. The speedometer was touching key hole so they adjusted the speedometer and moved it a bit away from the key hole the noise went away

    Overall Experience

The overall experience of the bike went really well if i had any issue the problem was resolved by the warranty center and any faulty part was easily claimed. Its an excellent bike specially if we see the styling and comfort and there is no bike like Piaggio 125 currently in the Pakistani market and i really enjoy the ride of the bike.

I would suggest you to go to your local electrician, and ask him to strip the plastic sheathing of the main wire harness (from the headlight till the fuel tank) and then check for the joins underneath, the joins are usually not properly insulated and just have a piece of tape wrapped around (if your lucky). These bare wires short out together (specially after you have washed your bike).

Dont bother with putting a heavier fuse, and dont override the fuse, as it can be bad for your bike's electrical sytem.
Ok thanks will get the joins checked

Vicky bhai regarding the ignition coil, what ignition coil can be easily available for piaggio and would make some difference specially in the fifth gear to increase the r.p.m. Installing santro or cultus ignition coil that would also increase the fuel consumption and what about the fitting will these also be fitted under the tank where the original one is fitted. and yes wouldn't more current be required for the cars ignition coil would the original magnet produce ample current for the cars ignition coil or would that also be changed?

Can you please give a detailed insight in all pros and cons of changing the original ignition coil to a cars ignition coil with iridium plug ? and what other parts need to be changed with it as you have done it before that's why i am asking as i am planning to change it.

Santro/Cultus have a dual pin coils for each pair of cylinder, (you will be using only one node of ignition coil in paiggo as it has only one cylinder) I bought it 4year ago for 400RS only it has a bigger longer reliable spark I tested it along genuine ignition coil which had very smaller spark.

How it helps : Bigger flame more combustion, complete fuel burns = More Power (actually complete usage of Bikes Power Band and better mileage)

Yes its small enough to fit exactly where the original one is fitted, and it has nothing to do with increase fuel consumption, all it does is to burn all the fuel came from inlet valve to chamber to increase performance, use STP Octane booster to further enhance the performance and redline line paiggo to 11000+RPM ... you will be amzed with the performance with Octane booster because paiggo has a higher compression engine relative to other bikes in market.

Yes the orignal magnetto is a 3-Phase Generator with enough grin dont worry.

Only do it if you are planning racing and high speed cruising, but if you are a laid back rider then why bother ? bike is working already anyways ?

only higher conductivity Plug cable+Coil and you can install it your self not a rocket science, or cal get help of any bike electrician, or better would be to try running bike richer on fuel and put octanne booster and cruise it on 5th gear to see if it completly redlines or not, if it doesnt then get the compression checked first may be rings are weaker, or any valve is leaking pressur if both are correct then you have a lousy spark the go for a pulg change along with coil and wire. ...

    happy Riding.

JazakAllah for the detailed replies. nope i don't want to or currently do racing, i was just thinking of doing it to see the max capacity in 5th gear as when i traveled to Gujranwala recently in 5th gear specially more rpm was required it didn't go above 8K or max 9K speed 110 K.M. and yes which plug cable to be used and is easily available? InshaAllah i will install it my self you are right its not rocket science

Hey i just read in the post ma black beauty that u will be visiting bilal gunj the cming weekend is that right?

if you were riding alone, and you are not heavy wieght, and wind was not very naughty, and the bike is new and still it is not redlining in final gear that means bike is not putting all the 11horses to work .. get it checked.. you can follow the steps from Piston Pressure gauge to Coil and Wire in the end..

yes I have to visit because Silver knife bike got damaged so he needs some parts too, beside the Deluxe carb. you can tell me if you need some thing for me to find... wire can be any racing plug wire you can find it very easyily in Chah Sultan Used Cars market along with the coil..

can you PM me your number, If I find I will call you..

I was not in favor of Clip ons in five years I never switched to ClipOns as I am a very Laid back rider, but when my Job got posted out of the City my brother got hands on piaggo, he imediatly pivoted the complete bike structure lolzz

and yes these raised ClipOns are truly very comfortable on Paiggo and donot put pressure on shoulders... I realised it after riding it...

Where did you got the yellow bike Piks I want to see more of it...

and yes these raised ClipOns are truly very comfortable on Paiggo and donot put pressure on shoulders... I realised it after riding it...

Where did you got the yellow bike Piks I want to see more of it...

ZaberDast Omer this is so detailed, and how much the cable and Coil costed you, by the way the Santro coil I used had two pins foor two plugs, you one is much more good as it has to feed only on plug...

did you changed the plug to irridium too ? all you need is to have test ride, I hope you micture setting is correct or you will feel no difference at all ..
Will post some more pics of piaggios, these are the piaggos in china the yellow one is 150CC

Nope didn't change the plug yet couldn't find irridium plug of piaggios size yet will have to search more or buy from lahore maybe lets see

The cost was 850 for ignition coil and 170 for high resistance cable

Kindly do search for these raised clipon's in bilal ganj as i need them for my bike, it would be a great favour.

The test drive inshaallah after the rain stops, i will adjust the mixture my self also how is it done i mean what would be the proper adjustment? i have no idea of these modifications as i am doing these for the first time and that also myself lets wee what happens i like experimenting.

I had honda cd100 for six years never ever touched it with my own tools always used to get everything done from mechanics but with this piaggio i like doing the mods myself its a completely different experience

hmmm, SK found Dunlop very good in terms of Grip as compared to Servis 90/90, but he didn't tell about wet conditions specifically.
I am looking for a good all rounder tyre.
Lets hear from SK and Omer about wet condition/cornering performance of these tyres.

yea, lets hear from SK, he is recovering at good Pace,

actually servis has a veryy similar design to Dunlop, and servis itself is very poor in wet conditions because the tread design donot allow fast escape of water under tyre and causes a lose traction...
Omer can explain also here that how is the handling of his tyre at corners and wet conditions too... because we all have 18'RIMS so we can share our knowledge.
