Default Ravi Piaggio 250cc (Touring Machine)

Bought this bike on 3-6-2011, after touring and enjoying beauty of Pakistan on this machine for almost 4 years i finally decided to swap engine to bigger displacement as a i tumbled upon a good deal.

My bikes engine was already in a bad condition, as it was consuming oil and didn't go beyond 100km/h most of the times. Nonetheless the engine was still performing well and would have served me good for another 1 years without any major problems.

I seized this opportunity to get a 250cc engine from Lahore via link of @vickytulla. Another reason to opt for engine swap is a bolt on fit. i didnt wanted any changes in frame so it was a good opportunity.

I will start this thread in sequence so that everything is clear and give proper instructions, do and dont's in case someone is willing for a swap.

    Final Product after engine swap.

Ravi Piaggio 250cc Touring Machine -1617237

First long tour with 250cc engine comes shortly as we planned to do camping and off-roading towards Shaban. 5 hours of off-roading with extremely steep mountains was ultimate test of engine. I managed to pull bike in every conditions with this load, while other bikes CG125 and Pridor were lagging behind. We have to even push both bikes at certain points. But even with all this load my bike was doing well

Soon after engine swap i made short trips to Ziarat (250km's) I was using Ravi's original exhaust which i made free flow by taking its nozle out. Still the pressure from engine managed to burst the exhaust So i had to find new one. After searching for almost week. I managed to get Kawasaki Ninja 250's exhaust.

Also changed rear shocks to deluxe, as previous one's were extremely soft. Changed handle bars to moxi one's

Engine swapping requires patience and lot of hardwork, for weeks i couldnt get greese of my hands and nails. You have to sort out smallest of things which mechanics wont. And now after almost 2 months of swap i can surely say, swap was successful and iam enjoying every bit of bike. Especially the acceleration.

Bike is extremely responsive, although there are vibrations which iam trying to cover as each day passes. But overall iam satisfied.

The true test of bike will be coming shortly on my 2500km tour that iam planning shortly

Engine + Carburetor + Plug + Ignition coil + Silencer + Front Sprocket to 16 from 15 and rear to 34 from 38

Additional changes= Rear Shocks + Handle bars

@Xulfiqar and @vickytulla I need to ask a technical question.

This engine has 4 forward and 1 reverse gear. I have no problem with reverse gear at all, actually its helpful during trips. The problem i have is this engine releases max torque at 5.5k, which contributes to its killer acceleration.

Iam thinking to change its current gear box with one from stock engine.

    1. Does it changes its max torque limit? like at 8.5K rpm

I have to change its clutch plates and some work in gear box as iam facing difficulty while shifting gears. One of my friend told me that changing gear box will make bike more responsive.

    2. If i change all gear to forward. Will it help making bike calmer at high rpm's? As currently i have 1 reverse and 4 forward.

    Looking for your valuable input

Xulfi bhai ki knowledge in this area is way above us but I can only share my experience in changing gear box @mqsdrana's bike and moosa's bike both have engines which I supplied and had there gears swapped)..

1 - Max Tourque will be observed from 6 ~7.5 after RP 5 fed gear box

2 - Yes it will be more responsive due to close gears ratio, right now the ATV gear box is not a close ratio...

3 - Yes Bike Will be Calm and quite and "even more reduced" vibrations in cruise speed like 110~kmh and above (tested @pirates @mOOsa and @mqsdrana's bike)

    hope that helps..

Just a update, bike's performing well. I recently came from a 5 day biking trip covering 1100km's.

This was the ultimate test for my fully loaded bike and the steep curvy roads that i have to go through putting enormous burden and pressure on engine.

Nonetheless my bike maintained 125km/h with a fuel average of 33kmpl

Sikandar brother what maximum speed you got after switching to 250cc

and in comparison to 125cc engine what changes you feel

If anybody swaps engine does it require to inform and be noted by Excise and Taxation and changes in Registration book?

I get a maximum of 130km/h that too with fully loaded bike, windscreen and sideboxes etc.

The bike is extremely responsive now, bus race dene ki deer hai and yes the engine needs to be changed on paper via Excise department
