    Default My new Daihatsu Move

    Hi there,
As some of you may recall, i was looking for a car less than 9-10 lacs a few months ago for my personal use. Finally I bought a daihatsu move, costed around 7.5 lacs.

Its a 660 cc petrol driven, unregistered car. I was worried about getting an accidented car so a friend arranged it for me. It has all the basic features a top of the line PDM car has: ABS, Power steering, Auto Tranny, Arm rest, cd player, 4 speakers, Airbags, rear wiper, remote lock and adjustable headlights. Thecabin is simple and well laid out. As i need to go to my job and come back (won't be using it for anything else), the 660 cc engine will do the job. It felt allryt driving over the flyover and speed bumps and those are the only major driving on inclines it will do.

The alternatives were a PDM alto or cuore, but both of them are no longer in production and i would have to buy them second hand. plus even if there are some new PDMs available in the market, this car is better equipped and has similar power.

Here's a brief pictorial review of the car.

    Total bill 5500 including labor
This wasn't routine checkup, I felt that the throttle response and mileage (rough calculation:around 13km/l)was slightly less. Anyway it's now back to normal.
    Will post proper mileage soon

    Hi
    thanks for update
Yesterday I got iridium spark plugs installed and Throttle body cleaned it had some carbon.
oil and filters were already changed.

Mileage i recorded last week was 12.9
Mileage i recorded before throttle body and spark plug installed was 11.9 (due to rain and heavy traffic)

lets see how much improvement i get . id be happy to get over 15km/l and if i dont, there would be no point of having Move.

this summer was horrible!!! the car gave alot of problems in the cooling department... as mentioned before, i got my compressor changed but that only temporarily solved the problem. because it has been rainy/cloudy alot in the past few days the air conditioning worked fine. but today in the sun, i was sweating like anything. i took my beloved move to my trusted mechanic who had already predicted that i would turn up any day and had a mini pajero compressor waiting for me.
he replaced my cars compressor (which was replaced a few weeks ago) with the mini pajeros. he also replaced the A/C condensor.
    both these were second hand.
    total cost including labor: 6000/-

some pics of the mini pajero compressor.
It was a 6 hr job. he replaced the compressor and condenser, cleaned the whole system (apparently the previous condenser was blocked) , refilled refrigerant gas and handed the car over to me. Will check how well it works over the next days and update you guys

Thank God the a/c is now working even better than when I bought the car. And it seems to be better than the swift
For those who have any a/c compressor issues and are looking for a replacement get a second hand mini Pajero compressor.
It doesn't affect the mileage either.

Its CVT transmission then. Normal AT transmission sequence would be PRND4D2 L most probably..

    Hi Omar!

I'm planning to have the "MOVE" and ur thread has a substantial contribution in reaching this decision. :-P But I still have some little queries in my mind. I hope that u'll find some time to address these.

    1. Since how long u've MOVE?
i bought it in august,2012. It was my daily ride from defence to jinnah hospital twice-thrice a day

    2. What is your final word about having MOVE? yes or n
Yes, now you really don't any other option. its been over a year since cuore and altos production has stopped and this is the smallest car available in the market- provided you know the dealer really well. this reliabilty will determine everything. make sure you get a good car, not an accidented one.

    3. Which model u've?
    its a 2007 model

    4. Which variant u've i.e. X, , X SPECIAL, X LIMITED, X VS II, L, L VS, L SELECTION, CUSTOM, CUSTOM R, CUSTOM X LIMITED,
    CUSTOM G, CUSTOM X ?
    not sure about the variant,
    5. Which model & variant do u recommend
the one with the minimal after market parts. personally i would prefer that model which has the gear lever on the dashboard

    6. What are differences between these different variants
theres a brochure in the previous pages of this thread.. u can see.. they're minimal
    7. Which transmission u've i.e CVT or 4-AT?
    its 4 AT
    8. If CVT, which other vehicles (PDM) are equiopped with it
i think city is the only option, but for me that's too big.

    9. Are our workshopmen are acquainted with CVT?
i'm not sure about CVT but they're acquainted well with my car. i get it tuned from toyota airport motors and from filter house-the mechanic there knows me well so he's trustworthy
    10. Which othere transmissions are available in MOVE
    CVT.,4AT, manual
    11. Which transmission is best in terms of fuel economy in ur opinion?
i've heard CVT is the best
    12. Which tranmission is overall best in ur opinion
i use the 4AT and have no problems. my father has a 2013 civic PT and he doesn't find any jerks in this JDM when compared to the former.

    13. What are the overall PROS & CONS of this vehicle
PROS.... its huge, the rear legspace and rear reclinig seats is similar to a business class seat.the 4-AT is a peach to drive in the city. i've had no parts problem (these are the spares which have been used in my car and are easily available.. brake pads, oil filter, air filter, A/C compressor (mini pajero's),A/C condensor, genuine iridium spark plugs).. i have never had any other spare parts issue except for a minor problem with the A/C (i was in a hurry and got a A/C compressor of a similar model rather than a mini pajero's due to unavailability of the latter). the fuel economy ranges from 14-24km/l depending on how u drive. the boot is so huge that it's used regularly to haul lugguage (which can't even fit in a '13 civics boot). its small size makes it manoeuvrable. it has ABS, airbags, seatbelt warning, power windows, very cool A/C (especially after getting the compressor and condensor replaced).

CONS...I dont think it will be good for motorway driving, i took it once. it was stable but the 660 cc is too weak. overtaking can also be a pain at times. but this feeling of underpower is rare (more commonly after i've driven the '13 civic or swift)i am not too sure about availability of spares such as headlights (i have never gone to bilal gunj personally due to lack of time )taking your car for the first tuime to get everything changed is a bit tense.. eg, when i bought my car i immediately took it to toyota airport motors to make sure its in one piece and got it checked thoroughly for accidented parts, etc. thank god there were none but it's still worrisome especially when you have just bought it.
and you've to get the oil, oil filter, air filter, sparks, brakes serviced immediately.

as you can see, i've mentioned more pro's than con's. and the con's too, are kinda stupid

for a person like me, who needs a small reliable and comfortable car, this has served me well. but because of 2 powerful cars ('13 civic and swift), this feels relatively underpowered. this is the only reason i'm going to sell it next year and buy a bigger JDM (1000-1300cc) unless a fully equiped local small PDM comes (highly unlikely)

I said earlier that I,ve SOME QUERIES but these are TOO MANY I think :-D but still hopeful that u'll respond.

    Thanking u in anticipation.[/QUOTE]

i would also like to mention that this car doesn't have very good suspension. one passenger can easily sit comfortably but more than one compresses the suspension making it stiff and a bit uncomfortable. but for a city run, it's not a big deal. i have even driven 4 adult passengers in the back without much hassle (thanks to the removal of speed breakers in the city)
i used this car for personal use, and very rarely did 4 family members sit in it.
you need a very reliable dealer. this car is a 2007 model so i'm assuming you will be looking for a mid 2010-2013 model. nevertheless, do remember a lot of cars in the market are NCP and almost every document can be forged. don't expect your car's mileage to be genuine either. but because of the good road conditions of japan, a non accidented car with a decent mileage (50-60 thousand kms) doesnt matter. and even my car had a reverse meter though i bought it from a dealer whom i knew personally. do not buy a model older than 2010 as this is highly likely to be imported a long time ago most probably accidented, fixed n is now being sold... your car should be a fresh import
you also need a very reliable mechanic, who won't rob you of your hard earned cash. this was a major plus point of my satisfaction. any problem i have, i immediately take it to my trusted guy.
use the best oils and oil filters. no cheap parts will suffice. i have always used to most expensive oil, got the best spark plugs and this has contributed to a good 14 months of ownership.
i'm not sure about the resale but i've had offers above the price i bought it for
if you drive on big clean roads, you wont have any problems. don't use it if your daily travelling is on broken down roads.
as soon as you buy it, you will have to take it to a big service center (authorized toyota dealers are less likely to tanper with your car and know JDMs well) to get its throttle body serviced, brakes serviced, air filter cleaned, get it balanced and alligned, jack it up and check it thoroughly underneath for rust, ask the mechanic to check whether its accidented or not...
to get oil, oil filter, air filter, sparks, brake pads you will have to get them from somewhere else as they're not available from the toyota delaership.
get it tuned every 5000 kms. if you know the mechanic, still supervise whatever he does.
these cars are good to go for a few years, its best to sell them after 3-4 years maximum!
i'm selling mine next year because i need a more powerful car, but because this JDM has been such a good experience, i will definitely buy another JDM.
i hope i've addressed your issues. if you have any other problem, feel free to ask

PS:sorry about replying late, was a bit busy

I'm using iridium sparks. My mechanic got them for me. If you don't have a trustworthy mechanic purchase them from jz - a pakwheels member. ( https://www.pakwheels.com/forums/user/jz)
I've attached pics of the current oil I'm using, check this thread and you will be able to see the exact type... It's by kixx pao Btw-as advised by filter house
