    Default My new Daihatsu Move

    Hi there,
As some of you may recall, i was looking for a car less than 9-10 lacs a few months ago for my personal use. Finally I bought a daihatsu move, costed around 7.5 lacs.

Its a 660 cc petrol driven, unregistered car. I was worried about getting an accidented car so a friend arranged it for me. It has all the basic features a top of the line PDM car has: ABS, Power steering, Auto Tranny, Arm rest, cd player, 4 speakers, Airbags, rear wiper, remote lock and adjustable headlights. Thecabin is simple and well laid out. As i need to go to my job and come back (won't be using it for anything else), the 660 cc engine will do the job. It felt allryt driving over the flyover and speed bumps and those are the only major driving on inclines it will do.

The alternatives were a PDM alto or cuore, but both of them are no longer in production and i would have to buy them second hand. plus even if there are some new PDMs available in the market, this car is better equipped and has similar power.

Here's a brief pictorial review of the car.

Yes, actually I'm on the lookout for 13inchers... Haven't been able to get a good set. The brand new ones available in the market are made in Taiwan and look like snoop dogs rims. I've heard the excessive chrome on them wears off quickly as well.
And I don't want to buy any rims off a pakwheels member either as unfortunately there are trust issues here as well.
So I will most probably stick to my horrible looking stock hub caps, the front pair of which has been taken off/broken :p

The move maintained a constant mileage of 15km/l this summer with a maximum of 17.
Now that the a/c won't be needed I will try hypermiling and take up the mileage to 24km/l like I did last winter.

Over here in Lahore when I bought my car I took it the Toyota mechanics right away because I didn't know any good JDM mechanic initially and as my family has always maintained their cars from authorised Toyota /Honda dealerships. Plus I didn't trust these 'private' mechanics.
I get my 2007 move serviced from both Toyota and a private mechanic.
The Toyota people - clean the throttle body, service brake pads, do alignment and balancing, check OBD diagnostics
My mechanic (associated with filter house) - changes oil, oil filter, air filter, changed brake pads (6 months ago), change compressor, and serviced A/C (4 months ago)

I take mine to Toyota because the mechanic doesn't have wheel alignment, balancing or OBD diagnostics.
Plus being a little paranoid, I feel that my car has been checked by professional mechanics after every few months. It doesn't cost much. Maximum 3-4 k every 6 months and 5-10k to the private mechanic (including spares) twice a year is the expenditure of maintaining it.

So it all depends on how much equipment your mechanic has. And how good your local Toyota dealership is. This car is not very expensive to maintain but do replace whatever wears out.
I've had mine for 14 months now and haven't faced any issue (except air conditioning in june-resolved in a week) because I don't spare any expense on its maintenance.

Lol... I know I'm ripped off, but I'm ripped off in comfort :p
The shop where I buy these and the mechanics workshop is just a 2 minute drive from my house.

got the car tuned at toyota airport motors... they checked and cleaned the spark plugs, cleaned the air filter, serviced brake pads and did wheel balancing, alignment and suspension check. the OBD device was not working with my car this time, however there was no problem so i wasn't too keen on it either.
before the tuning, whenever i braked there was a strange noise coming from all the brakes (a gurgling sound), this went away after the tuning.
the brake pads are okay for the next 5-10,000 kms

total cost at airport motors: 5,500/-

then i took my car to filter house defence, where the oil was changed. this time the mechanic used kixx pao 10W-40 (usually its 5W-40)... total cost of oil and oil filter... 2000/-

so the car is good to drive for the next 3500 kms (the oil used this time will need to be changed a bit earlier )
