    Default Daihatsu Sonica

    AOA
I am making this thread due to these reasons:
    1. There is no thread which has been made for sharing information about this car.
    2. I am hoping to help others thinking of buying this car, by sharing my experiences, positive and negative points of the car.
    Daihatsu Sonica -1315546
It is a 2007 model Daihatsu Sonica,(it has same engine as of mira, gino and esse) some of it`s details are as follows:
    1. It is a front wheel drive car.(4 wheel drive option also available)
    2. It`s engine capacity is about 658 cc.( It is Turbocharged car).
    3. It`s fuel tank capacity is about 30-35 litres.(Regular)
    4. Engine oil used is Liqui Moly 10W40 MoS2.(It is very good oil for year round use, but LM 0W30 would be better for winters)
    Daihatsu Sonica -1315545
    5. The engine oil capacity is 2.7L without oil filter change, and 2.9L-3.0L with oil filter change.

Beautiful car. I guess the best looking car in 660cc category !!

I need your opinion on three things

    1. What is the realistic fuel average of turbo version. I have heard that turbo has a pretty bad effect on mileage. Turbo variants of 660cc have fuel average of 10-12kpl with in city drive ... is it true ???

    2. There is a inherent problem of wind noise inside cabin at highway speeds .. is it the same in Sonica ? Have you taken it on motorway ??

    3. Sonica is quite less in quantity on roads. What about spare support ??

    1. What is the realistic fuel average of turbo version. I have heard that turbo has a pretty bad effect on mileage. Turbo variants of 660cc have fuel average of 10-12kpl with in city drive ... is it true ???

A turbocharged car has lesser mileage than another car without turbo but this increases the performance dramatically
READ Post#9 for fuel consumption information
There are many factors affecting your mileage:
    1. 60% Driving Habits (moderate, semi aggressive, aggressive the lighter you drive the better the mileage )
    2. 20% Route (short route (less than 10 km drive) driving will decrease your mileage because you have crank the motor more often)
    3. 20% Car condition (1.proper maintenace 2.oil change+ oil filter 3.air filter 4.tyre condition etc)
IF REVVED HARD IT WILL GIVE 12 KM-PL Otherwise anyone can get 15 KM-PL with semi aggressive driving

    2. There is a inherent problem of wind noise inside cabin at highway speeds .. is it the same in Sonica ? Have you taken it on motorway ??

I have personally driven it at high speeds of 130-140 kph often and i can say that there is very low wind noise at those speeds it is more quiet than a corolla or a city at those speeds

    3. Sonica is quite less in quantity on roads. What about spare support ??

It shares the same 660 cc engine with MIRA, PASSO, ESSE And MOVE
It is different than them because of addition of turbocharger, the turbo gives it very good power and acceleration

    Default Speed Test 27-12-2013

got a chance to test my ride to it`s limits on Friday and it did not disappoint, tested on a 3 km straight motorway-like road (meaning high quality asphalt road) with almost zero traffic. It reached 140 kph within a minute.
    1. 4 people were present in car (total combined weight of people and luggage was close to 320 kg +-20 kg)
    2. no modifications were made (completely stock)
    3. driven in only D gear from 0 to 140 speed
    4. regular petrol no high octane

    Default Rear Shocks Improvement

Got Shock spacers installed in rear shocks on friend`s advice
Main reason for installing spacers was because it`s underside got scraped/scratched at every speed breaker
The installation took 30 minutes, size of spacers installed is 1 inch and after installing them the rear suspension has become noticeably stiffer and car looks a tad bit lifted from the back.
Now it does not touch any speed breaker even with combined weight of 4 people. (my daily route is 65 km and it requires me to travel with a minimum of 2 colleagues to a maximum of 4 )
Cost of complete installation+spacers was nominal only 700 rupees which was worth it considering the improvement.

Default Fuel Consumption (Comparing average given by using Hi-Octane vs Regular)

Fuel remaining was less than a quarter tank.
Filled it with around 30 liters of Hi-Octane, after using for 550 km, car meter showed mileage of 19.6 whereas in reality when i calculated mileage i got average of 19 km-pl.

In previous cases when Regular Petrol was used in car, after using for around 450-500 km, car meter showed different mileage reports of 19.3, 19.5 km-pl and when Average was calculated it gave around 0.1 to 0.2 more than what was shown on car`s meter. It gave average consumption ranging from 19.4 to 19.6 km-pl respectively.

I tried to install 1/2 inch spacer but it still scraped the speed breakers so had to install 1 inch spacers. now scraping issue is resolved and looks are still good

    Default Front Brake Pads Replacement

Front brakes were feeling a bit non-responsive.
    Got them checked.
As per my assessment they were completely worn out.
Got them changed, only china pads were available of good quality, Toyota ones available were of low quality.
    Whole procedure took 30 minutes.
    Old Brake Pads:
Brakes pads were almost completely worn out.
    daihatsu sonica -1377811
    Daihatsu Sonica -1377846
    Daihatsu Sonica -1377847
    New Brake Pads:
(Forgot to take any photos but they were almost 6-10 times thick when compared with the old pads)
    looked similar to this

    Masha Allah, cute little car.

I have seen it in deep blue color and looks sublime.

You must have a big heart settling for that color!
