    hybrid cars are practical... its just that they need to have simpler parts...

    well for the illiterate owners and mechanics of cars in pakistan... i believe that is the solution...

    on the other hand... toyota could have used a normal master cylinder with a separate abs pump... like in their other cars.. i have seen jdm alto and kei and local swift... master cylinder is simple hydraulic cylinder.. and abs pump is separate.. at least if the pump stops working the normal hydraulic brake should work...

    design should have been robust.. mantain functionality even in case of partial failure...

    also modular designs are cheaper to make and replace. too complex parts are difficult to make.. easy to manufacture defects..
    the problem is not our govt... its the people..

    ^^ the Prius cannot use a normal M/C as there is no vacuum assist whilst the engine is off, So they have to use a motor to function, Then it also is tied into the drivetrain as the car has regenerative braking, meaning that when you press the brakes gently the brakes dont work fully but the transmission applies a brake in itself through the MG2.

    This also means that the system keeps up with moving the pads onto the discs at all times, which also means that if you remove the pads without disarming the brake system - the pads can eject, more cluster fudge. This system is also employed by MB in some of their cars and is very very pricey to repair but it carries a 10 year warranty.

    sir like nfssaad said it totally depend on owner and our mechanics, i gave you my experience. I sold prius to Lahore genuine 62,000km driven car everything was working fine but after few days owner calls me and tell me that prius is not converting to Hybrid mode and he also get scan from so called toyota authorized service centres, they say battery fault and gave him estimate of 1,25,000/- with replacement of battery.

    But i have ask and discuss this issue with my friend who is expert in prius electronics and also Pakwheeler @capsat Sir. I told them the same thing, so eventually problem came that fault code HV is coming because. due to moisture the cable which discharge the battery to generator is faulty because it was winter season. So they change the orange type cable which are coming from hybrid battery to generator and problem solved. Cost of cable was Rs 10,000/- that too because in Lahore and Karachi we have many half cuts and spare of prius.

    If you make ONE mistake while working on the orange cables - you become burnt meat, you die and you will reek of a smell that is more like burning a dead dog. Just for kicks if you know an a high voltage technician hand them a hot dog frankfurter and ask them to place it between a 600V short.

    The smell is beyond nasty.

    anyway - I just recently shipped a unit to Pakistan (MG2) i.e.

    well if you know the name of part in generic language (USTAADI language) then there is good chance that the required part can be arranged, if you goto right shop and ask for required part, i have never seen the shop keeper astonished by the demand, however they try to hipe up the price by pretending that required part is very rare and hard to find in whole wide world...

    a machine can malfunction at any time but JDM Prius are free from this problem. Also wrt the thread referred above for 3000$ repair the owner should have googled a bit. have a look at following links and you will know that this part is available at much cheaper price i.e. 250$-295$. let's say that replacing the part would cost 200$ (which IMO is a ridiculously high price). so the total expense would be 450-495$. Although the part is a used one in below links but I am pretty sure that these would have worked well for the owner.
