buy a badge and write expert on it then wear it.

When you do the job you will be sure an expert is doing it. Cmon man, its acid n water in a bucket. The only labor is removing the thing from the car.

Is it actually a serious way of cleaning the cat? From what I know, the catalysts such as Platinum, Palladium Rhodium etc are coated on the honeycomb. If you actually wash them with water or acid, wouldnt the cat just lose its function?

nopes, dont dunk it in straight acid - a diluted mix wont hurt, it will clean it out, OTOH, you can really flog the car on the highway to clean out the cats, I do that every now and then, Once did it so intense on a V8 mercedes that the cat converters literally were about to "glow"

Took the car for emmissions testing and it passed, the exhaust was so clean the technician thought the engine had shut off.

    Moral,

    clean the cats.

After a few years (8-10) they start to lose function, you can check that by measuring post cat o2 sensor data.

Sir what should be the proper ratio of water and acid? 50:50?
I'm assuming the procedure to be like passing the diluted mix from one hole of the pipe and let it drain from the other end of pipe till clear dilute mix starts coming out?

more like 20% - keep it weak. first blow it out backwards with air pressure. If the cat is salvageable then good, if its melted - throw it away, meltdown happens due to misfire.

Got it. Thanks. Throwing it away will be the last option as r18 civic's exhaust sound so bad after cat removal.

always replace with new cat, its a pricey item for sure, expect to be about Rs 20,000/- at least for a good item.

That cat has about USD 100/- worth of precious metal in there.

    Italian Tuneup?
I once suggested this to a friend, told him that his car needs occasional bashing, told him to rev hard and touch the red line in first three gears- and he went like: engine would pop out, engines are not meant to be revved that hard, etc.
I was like: why do you think they've given VTEC at 6000 rpms on a 7200 rpms engine. It lives up there, grab from it's throat, punish it with the wrath of your right foot, and let it scream for mercy... needless to say: I lost.

I wonder what they would say if they were passenger on a Honda S2000 and me redlining it. 9000 rpm piston engine.. it screams so loud that your ears start to be bleed - thats when you change gear.

Xilfiqar bhai. how about pouring some liquid in the gas tank. I know that what you mentioned is the best but how about putting a catalytic cleaner in gas tank and emptying it.. I have doubts over the second method but wanted to ask your opinion also.
