    Question Rotten egg smell

    The rotten egg smell that comes out from exhaust (hydrogen sulfide)... gotten worst in winter (no idea if coincidence). The car in question is Axio 2007 and it is happening upon cold start. There are no ERROR codes coming up in scan.

    The information available on internet talks different. Some say it means the cat converter has gone bad, others say it means the converter is working properly while some others say this means the cat is about to fail. Yet others say it is the high sulfur content in fuel*. So... experts' opinions required and what are the methods for checking cat converter's health? Temperature I can take via infrared temperature gun. Although I have to admit, I am having a hard time figuring out where the CAT converter is under Axio....
    @Xulfiqar @SER_GTR @StrikerX

    *I fill from PSO, I understand bad quality fuel will make the engine knock but if sulfur content in the fuel is high then it will be the same across all PSO pumps if they are getting supply from PSO officially. Tried fuel from several PSO outlets but the smell remains.

    I have seen the underside but cannot pinpoint CAT converter. Ofcourse, doing this without any lifting. Shall check on a service deck. I do not seen anything that looks like a CAT converter that comes up in pictures on internet but then perhaps orientation is different on this.

    Economy is okay. 11-12 km/l in local and 15-16 km/l on long.

    @mashriqain Refer to the image below, you can clearly see the POST-CAT O2 sensor in the pic so the CAT should be where the arrow is pointing. Pic is of my car

    Thanks! and surely that is not as fancy looking as images when you look for CAT converter on Google and this is also not easily reachable unless it is on the deck... Now off I go to look up mine

    ^ Thanks for that! and well, after a quick crawl under the car: CAT converter is surely present. I will check temperature sometime after a drive in a day or two. Please let me know if there are other ways of checking its health.

    @Xulfiqar @SER_GTR

    Is there any method of knowing whether the CAT converter is working fine or not, by looking at the A/F and O2 sensor data? i.e. should the O2 sensor graph the same as A/F sensor or opposite when everything is normal?

    I also suspect something is not right with the O2 sensor as it responds with a lag. While I have also checked the O2 sensor's resistance and that exceeds the Toyota's mentioned resistance by at least 7 ohms. The resistance checked for the A/F sensor is within limit.

    Yes there is procedure for the cat testing it can be inspected by only toyota factory tool by initiating the A/F test and seeing the lag and response time of both sensors.

    ^ Can you post screenshot of a normal graph of A/F and O2 response? I have got Techstream.
