Default Toyota Rav4 (1998) Fuel Pump

Salam everyone, my uncle owns a Toyota Rav4 1998 (3SFE engine) model. For the last one year we are facing a strange issue. The car runs smoothly mostly but sometimes it suddenly stops, gives jerks and missing. RPM drops and if you push the accelrator in Neutral gear too, it still doesn't respond. Then it is cooled down for sometime and it runs perfect again but when the temperature increases it does the same. Some one told us that it is because of faulty fuel pump inside the tank. Expert opinions are required.
    Thanks.
