Default Toyota Passo/Daihatsu Boon Owners/Fan Club

The purpose of this thread is to discuss and share views regarding Daihatsu boon/Toyota passo and to provide a common platform for the owners and potential buyers to discuss the car.
Passo/Boon has become quite popular in the last 2 or 3 months. People are getting curious to know about this car which offers better features than the overpriced 1000cc vitz in a better price tag. The purpose of the club would be to share technical / operational information regarding the car. As well as help fellow members with different issues regarding the everyday running of the car. Realistic advices on prices regarding the condition and model of car will be provided.

Well, you can used Toyota Wish center box..much bigger than Passo. I used passo center box before, but too small, change to wish box already. I really satisfy using wish center box.

Have you replaced the engine oil? If not, then use ZIC A+ 5W20 viscosity grade engine oil to improve mileage. Also, replace the air filter as well.

@vicky i am not an expert but some people will ask you to check your Engine mount and may be expert can answer it well.

i will just share my experience, First of all the engine is cold that is why it vibrates and slowly when the engine runs your RPM increases and the engine vibrates less. So you can increase your RPM (you can ask any mechanic to do that).

OR some members say that it is inherited in most PASSO, even i experienced the same. i tried to change gear oil and blah blah but nothing happened.

    That was my experience bro.

    Thanks

I have tried about everything but there is no difference at all in vibration. Engine knocking is however a different thing, that varies with oil fluids and fuel quality. About the vibration, as @smokenn said it is a characteristic of Passo till previous gen. (Old shape)
The reason behind it that a lot of people including me think is: the engine is 3 cylinder, so u can say its underpowered and not as smooth as the 4 cylinder engines. These 3 cylinders take a load extra than 4 which causes it to vibrate due to weakness. I may be wrong but thats the concept i have in mind

Sounds like your RPM goes up late.

1 KR-FE engines have inherent vibrations and their distinct sound. So it is nothing to worry about.

But bro when you start your car, RPM is always on the higher side and it decreases as the engine warms up. A thinner oil like 5w30 helps your cold starts.

I got Jinyu as this was the only choice after General owing to tire size. Surprisingly, I am more than satisfied....soft and quiet and no problem after 20,000 running.

Other brands are also available in Passo tyre size. My rim is 14 and tyre width is 165, profile 65(probably or else 70, not sure). My experience with Jinyu is super bad. Though i agree its better than General but its still a horrible tyre. Im surprised ure still driving on them after 20000-kms. Mine got hard, uncomfortable and the texture of tyre tread felt like they got acne all over them. Felt like termite/deemak has been eating the tread surface. I ended up replacing Jinyu after hardly 15000-kms and went for Yokohama Ecos (slightly used tyres in good condition) and immediately the car went from being horrible and un comfortable TO soft, smooth and comfortable. If anyone would ask my opinion: Jinyu is a big NO. Its better to get Yokohama for double the money than spending half now and half again after a while bringing the same total expenses. Please keep in mind my car on technically 2nd hand Yokohama feels a great deal better than those brand new Jinyu i got.
