Default Toyota Passo/Daihatsu Boon Owners/Fan Club

The purpose of this thread is to discuss and share views regarding Daihatsu boon/Toyota passo and to provide a common platform for the owners and potential buyers to discuss the car.
Passo/Boon has become quite popular in the last 2 or 3 months. People are getting curious to know about this car which offers better features than the overpriced 1000cc vitz in a better price tag. The purpose of the club would be to share technical / operational information regarding the car. As well as help fellow members with different issues regarding the everyday running of the car. Realistic advices on prices regarding the condition and model of car will be provided.

The oil filter and air filter are the same as vitz. They both are around 150rs each. total cost of oil + oil filter + air filter was around 2250Rs.

my dvd model# is nddn w56 ...Mohsin are u able to watch video ???
Yes i tried running a dvd but the dvd was not in a good condition. still did not even get a glimpse of video. will try again. i have this same model in my car. it ran audio cd without any problem. map disc will only be required for navigation system. i guess a software update will be required to make it work. did not find anything useful on the internet.

well the fuel consumption will increase definitely by switching to the continental size ...esply in city, the consumption will def. increase....following is a useful video for reading tire size:

but if economy is not ur foremost concern, then the continental size will def. give u more smoother drive

I just changed tyres of my passo to yokohama 185/65/14 DB decible , these are gr8 , not much difference in fuel , these will also incerease height of your car.

As far as i know , the stock tyre size is 175/65/14 , i found this size in a manual of Sirion

    Default Few queries

Hi all, This is really a very informative thread and thank you all for the valuable information you guys have accumulated. I Recently bought a 2009 model Toyota Passo in Lahore but its not giving as good an average as has been mentioned in this thread. Believe me I am getting only about 10.6km/L in city with AC. Should I replace the air and oil and air filters first and also the engine oil or should the first step be throttle cleaning by Toyota 3S dealer? Also, can someone guide me in locating the transmission oil gauge location? The navigation and DVD menu etc. are in Japanese. Any chance of changing to English one?

get you tire pressure checked. Get mobil 1 5w 50(costs 4900rs and good for 10k KM). First change the oil, filters then if there is no improvement try changing transmission oil. Remember you car is automatic not CVT. So use only auto gear oil.

the main reason for this mileage is air filter. i am guessing it might be choked. mine was and i got 11-12km/l. then after oil change and filter change i get 14-15km/l. on highways it does 19km/l.

    Hello folks,

    Update on my Passo testing:

Last week's average mileage: 12 km/l, normal acceleration, moderate traffic city driving with AC on, O/D off below 60 km/h.

Not very good performance. And I had already changed the engine oil / filter and the air filter last week.

Today, I took the car to Toyota 3S, they did a full engine tune up. Found all spark plugs worn out and leaky, got them changed with new genuine irridium ones (cost Rs. 1200/plug), got throttle body cleaned (was getting blocked with carbon), and got wheel balancing done. Total bill = Rs. 6,500.

Asked about transmission oil change, but the Toyota guy told me there is no need unless you feel the gears are not changing on time or properly. Generally they change it after 80,000 km for automatic trans. Mine has done only 30,000 so they recommended me against it.

After tune-up and everything, now I can feel the car is more responsive and is giving a more powerful pick. Will run it through the same mileage test this week, however with O/D continuously on and will report progress enshallah next week.

Tip to folks who have done everything and still not noticing improvement in mileage: Try getting your wheels balanced and drive with firmer tyres (~ 35 psi inflation pressure instead of 30 psi). Let me know if it helps.
