Default Here are recommended oils for 1KR-FE & 1NR-FE

Firstly a big thank to the gentleman who sent me complete manual of Toyota Passo by email. Am really thank full to him.

Here is what they recommend in the manual.

    1KR-FE (1000 CC engine) 0W-20
    1NR-FE (1300 CC engine) 5W-30

They repeatedly mentioned in the manual that for "BEST FUEL CONSUMPTION" feed 1KR-FE with 0/20 oil. it will give the best mileage.

I know hundreds of Vitz are out there and people are pouring 20/50 oil and changing after 3K.
Moreover I've checked with LM's head office in Germany and here is the min. & max. range of the oils we can feed to 1KR-FE.

    Minimum 0W-20
    Maximum 5W-40

These cars will ideally work in above oil range.
So technically these engines will "not work ideally" if we will feed them 10/30, 10/40, 15/40, 20/50 etc. oils.

Presently Kixx G1 (Tin pack) is 0/20. Price 2800/4L. SCI is 5~6K. Just forget either its summer or winter, if you want to save on fuel consumption, then 0/20 is the best choice.

If anyone need the manual, write your email here. Its 8MB file and I'll send once to all.
    No Guts, No Glory.

0-20 for 1KR FE is for Japan and other countries. Avoid 0-20w here, our octane level(even in our HOBC) is low which raises the temperature of the engine and engine is usually struggling to get maximum output. 5-30 is ideal for our conditions.

    Seems hard to digest.
Either you use 0w-20 or 5w-30, what will be difference as long as you are using fuel which has low octane level ?

When you use fuel below recommended octane level the fuel doesn't burn properly/at the right time it ignites immediately making the engine temp really hot. A good sign of lean mixture is those orangi rusty exhausts pipes we see in Pakistan. Which makes us really happy...engine tate hai
Anyway so when the temp gets really hot, 1kr-fe will start drinking it/pure evaporation. If a new car is drinking oil this means the oil is having a hard time to keep things cool. A high octane fuel actually burns slower (I know it's hard to believe) but that?s a fact

It burns slower and exactly where it has to giving you great low end and high end torque and because it doesn't ignite at wrong places it keeps temp low and the engine works at optimum level. But, unfortunately our hi octane is 92 Ron only.

To make things worst passo, vitz, belta are not designed/calibrated for our country. These cars are euro 4, 5 and 2014/15 model are euro 6 compliant. Our fuel is not even euro 1 compliant (I can be wrong, Inviting you to check ) how can you expect these cat converts to not choke. So our fuel needs an upgrade too. Most of us out there are driving on half choked cat converters I bet my life on it(Anyone who has a 1kr fe for more than a year in Pakistan). This against add to heat factor in engine.

To conclude 0w 20 is awesome plus it's recommended but with our fuel. you?ll always be topping it up every second week. I suggest 5w 30 or liqui Moly synthoil 5w 40 With genuine oil and denso air filter plus clean O2 sensor, map sensor every 10 to K.

Viscosity of oil has to be according to ambient temperature. Temperature in Japan is much colder. Same viscosity oil cant work for both countries.

Its mostly displayed in the codes.
Below text is an example that I copied from some website.

The chassis number is the alphanumeral starting with ANH10 (MNH10 for 3.0L model). It also shows the engine variant (2AZ-FE) which is a 2.4L model, with U241E transmission and 2-wheel drive (02A). The colour of the car is white (042), trim (FB03) and manufactured in plant C32. I hope to find out more about the trim number.

1KR-FE takes 3.5L including oil filter.
0w-20, 0w-30, 5w-20 and 5w-30 are ideal for this engine for best fuel economy.
Your car is CVT. Check the gear oil also. If need to change or replace, then only replace with CVT oil. Its expensive but very long life.

if LM has any of these engine oils, 0w-20, 0w-30, 5w-20 and 5w-30, then surely you can go ahead and choose.
any oil starting with 10w or above may not give better fuel economy as compared with above recommended viscosities.

Engine oil can try to buy it from Metro or Hyperstar.
Oil filter and Air Filter are very common. Buy looking them at Toyota's workshops can be very expensive. They always charge high.

Its Gear Oil is OK or that need to be change as well?
