Default Here are recommended oils for 1KR-FE & 1NR-FE

Firstly a big thank to the gentleman who sent me complete manual of Toyota Passo by email. Am really thank full to him.

Here is what they recommend in the manual.

    1KR-FE (1000 CC engine) 0W-20
    1NR-FE (1300 CC engine) 5W-30

They repeatedly mentioned in the manual that for "BEST FUEL CONSUMPTION" feed 1KR-FE with 0/20 oil. it will give the best mileage.

I know hundreds of Vitz are out there and people are pouring 20/50 oil and changing after 3K.
Moreover I've checked with LM's head office in Germany and here is the min. & max. range of the oils we can feed to 1KR-FE.

    Minimum 0W-20
    Maximum 5W-40

These cars will ideally work in above oil range.
So technically these engines will "not work ideally" if we will feed them 10/30, 10/40, 15/40, 20/50 etc. oils.

Presently Kixx G1 (Tin pack) is 0/20. Price 2800/4L. SCI is 5~6K. Just forget either its summer or winter, if you want to save on fuel consumption, then 0/20 is the best choice.

If anyone need the manual, write your email here. Its 8MB file and I'll send once to all.
    No Guts, No Glory.

Guys I have 3rd gen vitz and it's genuine 38k driven
I recently changed its oil to kixx 5w-40 fully synthetic. The engine is smooth. But is this oil ideal? Is kixx a good brand?

My view is that the viscosity of oil depends on the temperature range in which the engine operates. There is a lot of difference between the weather of cold country and hot country. In a cold country the oil in winters may literally be frozen solid, i.e. difficult to circulate in the engine when engine is cold.

Therefore 0W20 or 0W30 type oils are not suitable for conventional gasoline engines in Pakistan. They may be ok for Hybrids, as hybrid engines operate differently as compared to conventional gasoline engines.

For Pakistan for a non hybrid gasoline engine I would recommend (and the local manufacturers also recommend) 5W30 or 5W40. If the engine is very old and is about to come apart, then it is a different ball game. But 20W50 is the worst thing you can put in your engine unless the engine is about to come apart.

The first no. is very important i.e. 5 in 5W30. This no. determines how quickly the engine will be lubricated in cold start. Remember max. damage/wear to engine is done in cold start. The 2nd no. is important, but not so important. It simply increases the viscosity when the engine is running hot. However a running engine in any case has minimal wear. The wear has already taken place at starting time.

I always use LM or Mobilone .. On the suggestion of my brother I tried Kixx. It's indeed good. The engine is smooth and the roughness is minimzed. But sometimes I feel after the oil change that car is a bit heavier then before and fuel efficiency has declined a bit. This might be due to oil or regular petrol I poured in this time.

Anyone tried zic A 10w40 in their passo or vits ?

Is it recommended if your car is decreasing oil with time ...
Or stick to 5w20 and keep toping up after months.

    Plz need suggestions

It is just for experience. Was getting 17/18 per liter when I bought my 2012 passo with 45k miles on it. Now after 2 oil changes from Toyota with 10/30 my average now shows 8/9 km per liter. So I will I guess go back to thinner oil as being discussed on this thread and use 0w 20 or 5w 20 .

    Cheers
