This is the parking brake engaged, at its lowest position. It is designed to obstruct the footrest when engaged, so that if you forget to disengage the brake, it will prevent you from placing your left foot on the footrest comfortably, and remind you that the brake is applied.

When disengaged, however, it goes so far up that no amount of foot movement can trigger it. You have to lift your heel to apply it.

This foot brake is not touch-sensitive. It has a very hard spring that needs a lot of leg power to be pressed. The entire act comprises of your willful decision to engage the brake, lifting your foot completely off the floor of the car about 12 inches, finding the little brake pedal by touching it with the sole of your shoe, pressing on it hard using your legs muscles, and stopping after clicks so that it cant be pushed in any further.
I wonder what sort of pinky has the ability to do all this, and that too with a touch!

Bigfoot's Pinkie? I wasn't sure how it works, electrical or mechanic, if it engages while in gear bla bla. I found my answers, 1 by 1 . Thanks for the explanation. I still prefer Hand-brake.

I prefer hand brake too. But the foot brake is very practical because it does not take up any space between the seats. With the gear shifter on the steering column, and the brake at your foot, you have a huge utilizable space between the seats, which is very useful.
Also some of these cars come with sofa seats in the front meaning theres no gap between the front two seats. Its quite cozy. All this is possible because there's no hand brake.

Oh well, I hated Autos until I drove one. Now, my aim is to get an Auto next time. I would love a sofa seat car

    Hand brake FTW
Have u driven the old hiluxes that had pulling handbrakes below the steering column and now in the new vigos it is like the one in cars which feels very good to operate.

That central handbrake is very handy but in these jdm dinkies they need to provide more cabin space in a small area so these type of foot/park brakes etc
My dear ALLAH when I loose hope, help me to remember that Your love is greater than my disappointment and Your plans for my life are better than my Dreams.
