Need experts opinion for changing tyres of my prius. My prius came with oem 205 45 r17 and i m willing to change my tyres to 215 50 r17 to increase the ground clearance of my car as u all know prius hits alot on the speed breakers.
So please tell me whether the 215 50 r 17 are compatible with prius or i should get the standard 205 45 r17 in my prius.

the door sticker on my Prius says 215/45/R17 and tires match this size, i guess they're the ones you should go for as it is the recommended size. As for the speedbumps issue we have to deal with it there's no choice. best thins is to avoid taking in the areas of big bumps and all, take any other car in the garage.

Sorry mine also came with the standard size 215/45/r17. So i m thinking that by increasing the profile of the tyre by just 5 might not create a big problem in the car. On the contrary it might soften up the drive a little as u know that the roads here are not flat like japan and the bumps on the road might be feeled a little less.
But this is what actually i think, we cannot be sure without a practical experience.
By the way which brand of tyres came with ur prius. My car came with brigestone turanza and my friend told me these tyres are not made for pakistans climate and roads conditions, these tyres are made for much cooler temperatures. That is also another reason for changing the tyres of my car.

I feel lucky Alhamdulillah my Prius came with Pirelli Dragon tires almost new, they have very strong grip Masha Allah and comfort level is very high too.

By changing tyres from 205 / 45 to 205/ 50, the ground clearance is expected to increase by at least. 10MM.

In my view changing the tyre size for ground clearance is almost equal o installing spacer in car.

Cant say! Spacer is still good option for ground clearance.

As per auction sheet u posted, mileage inspection says Sep 14. When it got cleared? If it was auctioned in June 14, then it must be cleared within 40 - 45 days of auction date.

as per my experiance with gen2 (1500cc) and Gen 3(1800 cc) Prius I recommend:

for Gen 2, 1 inch spacer at rear + tyre size 195/65/15 (stock size is 185S for non touring models) doing so will increase the ground clearance by 1.25 to 1.5 inches and it will clear most of the speed humps with out any issue

As for Gen 3 = As it already has better clearance compared to its predecessor, you only need to increase the tyre size, but do not over kill it
Drive carefully! Remember, it's not only a car that can be recalled by it's maker.
