is there any difference between the specs of 2007 and 2008 models ?

I am planning to buy this car and will be keeping it for about 4 years. The car will be used in Urban as well as rural areas. Would you guys recommend this car to me ?

What are the important things to look for when buying Prius ?

    Any help/guidance would be appreciated.

Recommended oil & filter change at 5000kms. Use imported 5-30 engine oil. Slightly higher price but peace of mind.
Usually air filter is changed at every 2nd oil change however, I suggest change air filter at each oil change as well. Use imported.
Then rotate your vehicle tires every 10000kms.
Check you 12V (LV) battery regularly.
HV or Hybrid battery is good for at least 10-12 year from date of manufacturing. I read about two studies where vehicles had 352000km and 700000kms on it and still running on original hybrid battery.

Prius is an excellent car. Series-Parallel Hybrid.

Vehicle documents will tell you the exact mileage. Most of the time meters are tempered. Check acution sheet (if original available and export certificate).

Thanks for the info. are the oil and air filters same as local corolla? if not are these easily available ?
=> Oil filter, air filter and imported oil is available at Toyota dealers and some local oil/parts shops as well. These items are available in Sialkot and I am sure Islamabad market should have these as well. You may have different preference, but I always take my car (Altis or Prius) to the Toyota dealership for service. I never used desi mechanic even for oil change.

if the HID tube fails, is the replacement available ?
=>Since, these are genuine HID light kit so there shouldn't be any problem. Usually, genuine things are built to last longer. I have not checked the availability of the HID kit. However, I will post here as soon as the information is available to me.

HOw about fuel filter, when is it required to be change and is it available ? usually fuel filter is changed after every 40000km[/QUOTE]
=>The fuel filter is built into the fuel tank and it is built to last lifetime. You do not need to replace or change this. Most car makers after 2004 models have integrated fuel filter into the tank. So, it is does not require replacement.

    Someone, in this forum asked about my Prius fuel average. I am excited to share these numbers, real fuel average numbers;

within city at speeds up to 60km: Avg. 21.6km/L at times I see average improved to 22.3km/L.
Highway at max speed up to 120km: Avg. 26.7km/L (from my recent trip to Lahore) at times, MFD display 27.2km/L.

Also, I have average results from high speed driving. A few weeks back, I tested my vehicle at 140 to 160km: the fuel average dropped to 15km/L. in 10 minutes of driving. This is extreme case and it was solely for testing purposes. I do not encourage such speeds, speeding is extremely dangerous, please observe the law and do not exceed the posted speed limit.

No plugin yet. It must be around 6-7 million. Have to wait for another policy that opens in 2016-17 to bring five year old models....cheers.

Right now I,ve 1998 civic, wanted to change the car. People say prius is very economical, I did some calculations, to see how much do I save if I buy a prius.
To compare the economy of prius with my car, I drove my car with very light foot and kept RPM below 2, and drove arround 300Km routine driving. It gave me 13km/L petrol consumption.
Toyota company claims that prius 2006-2008 gives 5L/100Km of fuel, i.e, 20Km/L
I bought my car in 2005 for arround 7lack, After driving my car 100000Km in 7 years, I used 7692L of petrol.
If I drive prius 100000Km in 7 years, it will use 5000L of petrol.
I will save 2692L of fuel in 7 years. Now a days price is Rs106/L, suppose it will increase to Rs115/L, I will save Rs3,09580 worth fuel in 7 years.
These cars are used cars, and most of the times they reverse the meter readings, you have to change battery after an year or so, so subtracting the price of batteries i.e, Rs1,50000. You are left with Rs1,59000 of saving.
Now talking about the resale. After 7 years, my honda civic 1998 will be sold arround 8 lac, giving me 1 lac profit, and considering the price you loose after selling prius, plus the headache you'll be having in keeping prius in Pakistan( spare parts, mechanics and technical assistance not available).
In my understanding, actually you are loosing alot instaed of saving.
    No Offence,

you have done some grave mistakes in your calculations.
1- the batteries don't cost 150k they cost 300K ($2250 in the states = shipping)
2- they need to be changed after 500K not every year
3- resale of each car increases over time in Pakistan
4- Now spares (except batteries are easily available
how ever there are not many mechanics that can help you with maintenance.
Drive carefully! Remember, it's not only a car that can be recalled by it's maker.

    AAh so the prius chapter..............

well now should i specify we are talking about the second generation.......how ever due to the change in regulations on imports(3 years) all fresh imports will be 3 generation..........

3rd generation:- gear panel is widely spread through the centre console.

another thing to remind you.....the prius is a much more expensive car in japan then the axio, civic and its other piers.

    atleast 25% more.

how ever that 25% gives you a car which is light years ahead of its competetors when considering features & a bit on the luxury segmant too.

lets see why should i buy a prius.

(1)- twice the fuel economy then a regular car

(2)- complete details of the fuel & power delivery on the navigation & odo panel.

(3)- Spacious interior or shall i call it a modern day cockpit.

(4)- Full panoramic roofwith solar panels, or sun roof

    (5)- push start.

    (6)- Spacious boot

    (7)- a 1.8 L engine producing 120 bhp (to lazy to check)

(8)- an added electric motor producing an added 40 bhp

Down side:- i personaly dont like the looks, but now i think i have learnt to live with them...........personaly i am not a prius fan.

Here's the picture of Prius HID ballast. I read somewhere on the net that 2nd generation had HID ballast issue. So, I opened my prius headlight and took a picture of HID ballast attached to back of the headlight.

This part the compatible across Toyota & Lexus brand vehicles. You can use similar compatible part as long as the specs in this image matches with the new part. The replacement could be a Taiwan or China made HID ballast, it should work just fine. I learned from a local installer that Premio, Prius owners have experienced HID issues which were replaced with China/Taiwan HID ballast and it worked just fine. However, I suggest the OEM Japanese replacement part.

I hope this info is helpful.

I guess one bar in fuel gauge is about 4.5 to 5L. How far you can travel with flashing bar depends on your speed. However, with a non-flashing bar (on fuel gauge) you can travel about 100km on highway.

Thanks a million brother for the info.

I am excited to share latest fuel average for the Toyota Prius.
Today I traveled about 20km within city. At the end of the trip the fuel avg on MFD was 26.2km/L.That means my car consumed less than 1 liter for the entire trip.

As per my observation, more you drive the better fuel average on Prius.
