Default Carla - The Red Prius - aliusman420

    Salaam everyone.

    Presenting "Carla"

So it's been quite a while since I bought the Prius but never got time to create a thread for it specifically, although shared its pics in several forums.
It is a 2010 model, S-Touring Edition in Barcelona Red color, imported in end 2013 and with me since 16th January 2014.
I bought it from one of the few reliable importers out there, that is, @Sharabhi a.k.a Shahzaib Rasheed bhai. The deal went real smooth, I saw the pics of the car on his Facebook page JDM Imports and called him up. After a bit of discussion, he sent me every possible detail he had of the vehicle even before I made any commitment to buy the car. The details were the original auction pictures, original Japan yard pictures with odometer pictures of the actual mileage, original auction sheet (which I got verified from my own person in Japan and it was as it is) and container unloading video and pictures. Some days later my friend who lives in Karachi and owns a Prius himself combined with all sorts of knowledge he has acquired about hybrids in his 2+ years of ownership, went and inspected the car and gave me the verdict that this is the car to go for. I made the token payment to Shahzaib bhai's friend here in Islamabad and after a day or two, the car got loaded on the truck and reached Islamabad in the next few days. When it arrived, I along with my mother went and took a test drive of the car and reached the decision of making the payment the same day. Some hours later we came with the pay order and took the delivery of the vehicle.
I am well-aware of the JDMs that are being brought into Pakistan and this car is absolutely not like them, it is a class apart. When I was buying this car, many friends said me to buy a MarkX, a brand new Civic or a 2006-07 Mercedes C180 and even though they are good cars, I needed a car which looks good, drives good and is easy on my wallet, and Prius was the ultimate choice.
Even being a 2010 model, the car feels brand new Masha Allah, the drive is highly comfortable, the road grip is far beyond the local sedans, high speed cornering is a piece of cake in this vehicle Alhamdulillah, and among all the other luxuries, it is fulfilling the one Prius is well-known for, it's fuel consumption
I am in no way a hypermiler and many times I have to drive like a maniac while getting late for University or some friends gathering, and AC is on all the time, still the car fares far above than other cars like Civic or Altis. To be very honest, I cannot be more satisfied in another car after driving this beauty. Even though the price tag was higher than the so-called market price (of the accidental cars), the car is worth every penny I tell you.

    Oil changed today.
Got Liqui Moly 5w30 for PKR 4,095/- for 4.2 litres.
Toyota Genuine Oil Filter for ZR engine (foam type) PKR 900/-.
Location: Liqui Moly outelt in F-10 Markaz, beside Shell pump.
Previous oil was Liqui Moly 5w40 if I remember correctly, it lasted almost 10,000 km easily, this one is being claimed to last 10,000 km too.

    Good job! My questions:

    1) why you changed from 5w40 to 5w30 ??
    2) Brother plz tell me some good shop in Islamabad for PRIUS accessories. e.g. I need some good mats for my father's ride.

I forgot that last time I got 5w40, got 5w30 by mistake but it serves the purpose
And as for accessories, visit Al-Sheikh in F-10 Markaz, beside Shell pump, a few shops ahead of Liqui Moly shop. I always get stuff from him.

Dipstick level is low when 4L is poured in, starving a car for lubrication isn't a good idea, in 4.25L dipstick shows perfect level of oil.

This comes from a guy who actually hates Prius. Like the whole world making jokes on it. Even Jeremy clarckson did a full review and wasn't really giving a thumbs up. I really like the color tho. Still to me the design and everything isn't really, well forget about my personal preferences I'm happy for you and wishing u all the best with It. As u mentioned you bought it keeping your wallet on mind. Still if it saves on gas, well the maintenance part chucks on the wallet back again. So back at you. One way or another still paying same amount running and maintaining the ride as Goes for other vehicles so I don't see any saving there. Please do prove me wrong. I wrote this with no intentions of mocking or offending anyone. Again. Ma Sha Allah, lovely color yet again.
    Drive safe.

Our people are excellent in spreading rumors, we should experience something first hand rather than relying on people's statements. Battery pack issues sprang up in the JENYAN vehicles proudly displayed at showrooms and bought by people with no basic knowledge of Japanese cars and specially Hybrids.
Quoting Jeremy Clarkson in Pakistan's case is baseless, I am his fan too but he is heavily biased towards several cars which are non-British.
As for the maintenance cost, what exactly do you have in mind? Oil, oil filter, air filter, brakes, thess are routine maintenance items for everything that has 4 wheels and an engine.
Spares are expensive but that is the case with almost every Japanese car in Pakistan.

Yeah well IceCube scene from ride along and a simple image search on google "Toyota Prius" doesn't explain why world isn't really accepting this while they want to get their hands on BMW i8.
Anyways, don't remember where I read on this forum. Coming back to our country. Some one actually posted a comment over a purchased Prius

"don't use it in rainy weather, avoid roads with a lot of bumps, avoid roads with puddles, avoid jet wash at washing stations, avoid water over engine, find a good workshop because mechanics here doesn't know anything about these cars"

And I was thinking, they better get it wrapped In bubble while taking it out. That would do.

Beauty lies in the eyes of the beholder.
Similarly one comprehends a statement according to his own thinking and intellect.
The things I mentioned apply to many Japanese as well as local vehicles. Jet washing the engine is done by people who know nothing about keeping proper care of a car.
As for the speedbumps part, all of these Japanese cars are very low and badly scrape over the car-breakers we have in Pakistan.
I am not liable to give anyone any justifications, jis ka jo dil karta hai karay jo sochna hai sochay because frankly, I don't care at all what anyone thinks about me or my choice, it's my property whether I pamper it or burn it, it's all up to me!

Whoever wrote this comment has said nothing wrong in my opinion.

Its not about bubble wrapping. Its about taking care of your "baby", like @aliusman420 does
If you love something, you take care of it, simple.

I am a prius owner and i bought it for 2.6million.the main purpose for buying prius was to save fuel. But after buying it i have come to a conclusion that buying the 1800cc prius for saving money is useless as whenever we will go in the market to sale our prius. We will end up making a biger loss then any other pkdm car. So in the end of the day all the money saved on fuel will be equalled with the loss that we will face in the resale of the car.

Everyone buying a Prius should know that the car has not got a resale value and should not blame the car but themselves. All the "resale" mentality people should buy Rollas (xli, gli). They dont deserve the luxuries of a much more better car.
And for you "savings" issue. If we only look at the "fuel cost" perspective. here is a simple illustration of savings that a Prius owner can generate over a period of 2 years.

    Prius Rolla
    Km travelled 50,000 50,000
    Mileage 22 kml 10 kml
    No of years 2 2
    Petrol Price 84 84
    Litres Required 2,273 5,000
    total cost 190,909 420,000
    Savings 229,091

So even if i sell my prius after 2 years at a 2 lac rupee loss, i will be highly satisfied.
Nd remember, the more u travel, more the savings..

and ofcourse the added comfort of the japenese drive with a lot better features than a corolla. And a satisfying ride everytime.
And i'd like to add buying a grande will also make you suffer in terms of resale, and everytime you park it somewhere all you can do is pray that it doesn't disappear (is stolen).
So why not buy a prius and enjoy it while you can.

There is a big difference in karachi and lahore traffic. In karachi we dont have to travel long distances every day as compared to lahore. I bought my prius 4months back and not a single time i have been to any highway or long drives. In karachi highway drives are much less as compared to that of lahore. Even if i had to go to highway i would not be taking my prius as the roads condition are worse then karachi and we all know the road clearance problem in prius.
My prius does not give me more then18km/l even if i drive it with a very light foot and if i drive it like my other cars then it gives me 14km/l. What the use of buying a 1800cc car when we have to drive it like a gadha gari.
in my opinion 2nd generation prius was a ideal car for pakistan which was priced arround 1.6million. It was in the bugdet of many people who could choose between prius and gli. But now we have to choose between grande and prius. 80% of people will go for zero meter grande coz of its stylish design and it only lacks in climate controll others there is no luxirious feature in prius as compared to grande.

I never wanted to get on your nerves. It's just I was trying to have a conversation which might have made me understand that part that why Toyota Prius has no respect internationally and over our homeland why it should be treated as a fragile chandelier being a hybrid that many people claim no mechanic understand being totally wrong. Still, yes it is your choice and your property and you are liable to act upon as you may find fit. Still I remain unclear with the facts that why treat it as a infant in a walker while it should be treated as any other car. Being hybrid isn't really a reason of saving it from puddles, thunderstorms, desert Strom.
Or calling in office saying I can't be there today as there are chances on rain and I drive a Prius. Guess as I was leaning more towards the grande I'll carry on with it. Because I'm not a person who would unroll a tissue paper and drive over it so my ride don't have to sweat it out.

Its not about bubble wrapping. Its about taking care of your "baby", like @aliusman420 does
If you love something, you take care of it, simple.
Sure, exactly. The love of vehicles, the actual love for the car and the relation ship a owner builts up with it is always there even with a 1972 corolla or this. Still that doesn't mean that have to be more careful with the vehicle to show the love just because you might break it in half or electrocute it. All I was saying was why more special why more gentle? Is it true if u take it out with out an umbrella you won't be coming back home soon? I don't think so.

Forgot about the maintenance. And yes, if you break something that on the minus as well because I guess the spare parts are on the heavy side of the wallet.
Other then that pretty logical calculation that is.

Yeah, that. Indeed a good point. I would love to add that how many other cars are there which I know are there that they actually give out same kind of milage without being hybrid. And top of that you can leave them in a car park without calculating milage while being on lift on your way to office being late and explaining why you were driving with a light foot saving them milage points.

can you tell me what are the features that a prius have and a grande dont have accept for climate controll.
The immobolizer problem can be solved with stalling a good quality security system.
while in grande we get padel shifters, sunroof and leather seats at a lower price (1.5lacs) (for prius atleast 5lacs) , good road clearance and also better performace.
i think there is not a big differece in the confort level of a prius and a grande.
