Default Carla - The Red Prius - aliusman420

    Salaam everyone.

    Presenting "Carla"

So it's been quite a while since I bought the Prius but never got time to create a thread for it specifically, although shared its pics in several forums.
It is a 2010 model, S-Touring Edition in Barcelona Red color, imported in end 2013 and with me since 16th January 2014.
I bought it from one of the few reliable importers out there, that is, @Sharabhi a.k.a Shahzaib Rasheed bhai. The deal went real smooth, I saw the pics of the car on his Facebook page JDM Imports and called him up. After a bit of discussion, he sent me every possible detail he had of the vehicle even before I made any commitment to buy the car. The details were the original auction pictures, original Japan yard pictures with odometer pictures of the actual mileage, original auction sheet (which I got verified from my own person in Japan and it was as it is) and container unloading video and pictures. Some days later my friend who lives in Karachi and owns a Prius himself combined with all sorts of knowledge he has acquired about hybrids in his 2+ years of ownership, went and inspected the car and gave me the verdict that this is the car to go for. I made the token payment to Shahzaib bhai's friend here in Islamabad and after a day or two, the car got loaded on the truck and reached Islamabad in the next few days. When it arrived, I along with my mother went and took a test drive of the car and reached the decision of making the payment the same day. Some hours later we came with the pay order and took the delivery of the vehicle.
I am well-aware of the JDMs that are being brought into Pakistan and this car is absolutely not like them, it is a class apart. When I was buying this car, many friends said me to buy a MarkX, a brand new Civic or a 2006-07 Mercedes C180 and even though they are good cars, I needed a car which looks good, drives good and is easy on my wallet, and Prius was the ultimate choice.
Even being a 2010 model, the car feels brand new Masha Allah, the drive is highly comfortable, the road grip is far beyond the local sedans, high speed cornering is a piece of cake in this vehicle Alhamdulillah, and among all the other luxuries, it is fulfilling the one Prius is well-known for, it's fuel consumption
I am in no way a hypermiler and many times I have to drive like a maniac while getting late for University or some friends gathering, and AC is on all the time, still the car fares far above than other cars like Civic or Altis. To be very honest, I cannot be more satisfied in another car after driving this beauty. Even though the price tag was higher than the so-called market price (of the accidental cars), the car is worth every penny I tell you.

To be exact, the car arrived on 16th January 2014, and Alhamdulillah it does not feel like the car is aging, just needs some ball joints and related parts replacements that too because of this stewpid MetroBus project due to which no road is in a healthy state, bumps everywhere, but the current ones are even okay, they haven't broken or anything like that, I just want to get them replaced for my own mental satisfaction.
As for the upgrades, current focus is on Corolla because it came bare and needs even basic upgrades like seat covers, mudflaps, foglamps, security system etc. With regards to Carla, there isn't much room for improvement because the car is already loadd with a lot of stuff to play with. I was hoping for a bodykit but our roads and the driving routine of my car doesn't allow me for that, if I do so, the kit would be lying in pieces. What I plan to do after getting over with the Corolla is that I might get HIDs in 4300k color for high beam and foglamps, but afraid to do electronic fiddling in the car to be very honest.
Do you have any potential upgrades in your mind that I might have missed?

yes body kit will be a bad idea though it would look really cool. And Ali bhai don't worry about ball joints, go to Toyota they will press them, no need for replacement. I got my 2nd gen prius left side ball joint pressed and no noise is coming now.
For Prius I would suggest to get the new shape rear lights, they look really cool.
Rest carla is awesome in its current state and regarding hids, just get some good quality ones installed, don't worry about tempering of electronics etc it's just like plug and play.

Wow if that's the thing then I'll take the car straight away to them the moment I get some time on my hands because this ball joints issue is worrying me since some time.
And yes I am eyeing the new model tail lights these days any idea how much will they cost?
As for the body kit, I really like the TOM'S one, original is quite expensive if I go for it I'll get my hands on Thailand made replica. I needed to ask that does the body kit toucg speedbumps or no?

    Salaam.
The first oil change interval was 10,000 km, but now after that the car has clocked around 7000 km and I'll be going for an oil change pretty soon. I have only used Liqui Moly 5W30/40 in the car, cost per oil change is Rs. 5,000, Rs. 4200 for oil (4.25L) and 800 for the oil filter.
Brake pads I got all of them changed many months back for around 13,000 I guess including labor. Have mentioned the exact post in the main post, you can check it from there as well.
I would never advise anyone to buy a car which has clocked over 100,000 km because a lot of maintenance expenses are required and the wear and tear is also a lot on the parts no matter how clean the body is. Always go for a car around 50,000 km or maximum 75,000 km, not more than that.
Other than oil change, no special maintenance is required. These days I am looking for genuine CVT oil because it needs to be changed, just doing that as a precautionary measure because my car has clocked around 65,000 km in total, was at 47,600 km when I bought it in January '14. Other than that, there is an added expense because of this MetroBus project, my car had to travel on broken roads and now the ball joints, Z-links and tie rods need replacement just as a precautionary measure as they have aged before time.
On the whole, you don't need to spend an extra penny if you get your hands on a clean vehicle.

Thanks for the feed back. So the list includes brake discs, CVT oil, Engine Oil, Air filter, oil filter, cabin filter, AC check, new tyres, balancing, alignment, plugs check and service.

Yes that is just about it, as for the plugs it's better to replace them with genuine ones.

Can you imagine the agony I go through that rest of the car is all glossy while the engine is dirty and dusty. Too much electronics are a major resistance to pressure wash the engine which I don't even do with the normal cars as well. For the Prius I just use a slightly damp microfiber towel and just wipe it on the components as far as the hand reaches.
One thing you need to know, service station guys use surf of the cheapest quality to wash your multi-million PKR worth car, such a harsh treatment screws up the paintwork. The best way is to use a dedicated car wash & wax shampoo of a reputable brand along with a microfiber wash mitt and then dry the excess water with a microfiber drying towel.

So Carla got her oil changed, air filter changed and spark plugs changed. It's Fast & Furious now even on ECO Mode.
