    Default Engine Oil 0W-20 Prius

i myself imported prius 2011 1.8 full option which was driven 70000Km earlier. last time i went to Toyota local dealer for change on engine oil, they filled liqui Moly 5W-30 whereas owners manual recommends 0w-20.

i sent an email to Toyota Japan telling them all story. they apologized for misguiding local dealer and recommended me that i again re-fill 0w-20. now the problem is, this grade is not available in Pakistan with any company except Kixx; but i am confused whether to go with Kixx or should i import the 0w-20 (Mobil1 or Liqui Moly) from UK or Dubai. i am not confident in using Kixx engine oil.

    what you guys prefer?

    Regards

    @shoukatsajidi
better dont go for Kixx. Check 0-20w even if u have to import it.

if u can arrange transportation, check someone as it is readily available in khi, no need to go far

0W oil is for countries which have extremely cold winters; where normal oil gets as thick as honey. Why the heck will you need this oil for Pakistan which is an extremely country? Do some more research.

The Prius will definitely drop fuel economy if you alter the oil grade from 0w-20 to 5w-30, however, it will not affect the engine. The 2ZR engine is specifically designed for 0w-20 oil which is extremely thin and super efficient, so pay no heed to the people who claim that it will somehow 'ruin' your engine in our weather.

The only 0w-20 engine oil available in the market is a little known Korean brand called S-oil. Use the 4l box and empty the whole box. The engine takes about 4.2l but overfilling on this engine is disastrous, and slightly underfilling is the best way to go without harming the engine. However, this oil is very new, requiring you as the owner to be very diligent. Hence, you must pay attention to the dipstick to see signs of discoloration weekly, and make decisions accordingly.

As for the picture above posted by @capsat, that manual is for the 2nd gen Prius up till 2009. 2010 onwards, the engine completely changed.

    Default 0w-20 for prius

Am prius user since 2011 .. in my opinion /experience thinner oils(fully synthatic) like 0W-20 or 5W-20 are best suited to achieve noiseless and smooth engine running... it's more of a myth to avoide using thinner oil in Pakistan's harsh wearther(Specially in summers) by mechanics and prius owners who don't keenly observe changes in behaviour of Prius engine while running on comparative thicker oils(0W-30, 5W-30/40 etc)... if one carefully observe the behaviour of engine while using 0W-20 (Recommended) and 5W-30/40 (comparatively thicker), following may be observed easily.
1). Engine shakes noticeably well at start with thicker oils
2).Engine sounds more quiter with recommended oil.
    So
Please use recommended oil in your prius to achieve optimum performance...

if you see the chart shared above 5w30 can be used from temp ranging from -29 to plus 38 so as summers here get more hotter its simple 5w40 best imo even 10w 40 no harm

In my opinion 0W-20 is the best, but as compulsive alternate 0W-20 and 0W-30 in same order of priority may be used ...!!

I agree with you. I noticed decline in fuel economy the moment Toyota poured 5w40 in my 3rd gen prius.

Please suggest where can I get 0w20 in Karachi. The gas stations I have been to dont have this grade.

    Thanks
