Default Prius Alpha Facelift Project @umarmuslim

So it all started when we imported a 2011 Prius Alpha & soon it was 2016 & the car was losing its charm. A client once asked me whether i could facelift his 2012 to the 2015 shape & I was quite pessimistic. Mainly due to the lack of parts of the 2015 Model in Pakistan, uncertain cost & grueling amount of time, which I lacked at my end & effort required. After a couple of incidences on the road in which bikers damaged my rear bumper & door, I was quite upset with the condition of my car. Due to my hectic work schedule my own cars wasnt kept as good as I would have want it to be. After using the car for a couple of years we started considering to get a 2012 or 2013 Model, being importers ourselves keeping we usually change the family car after 2 years. I really didnt want to sell the car since it was really low mileage, I would end up making a loss due to depreciation & still end up getting the same car only with the next model year & probably would be higher in mileage. So I changed my mind on spending extra money for nothing more than a year change or trim level upgrade the price difference wasnt making sense. Then I remembered my clients demand for an upgrade from 2012 to 2015 new shape & the calculations started alhamduLILLAAH with the help of my cousin & my spare parts contact in Japan. Some of the brand new parts were extremely expensive which at times dissuaded me from the idea, e.g New Pair of Front Lights were quoted by Toyota Japan at Yen 92,000/-, which was around the maximum total amount I thought was sensible enough to spend. So we started looking into used parts in good condition but with small defects to lower the price & it seemed to be a practical idea, since the price was almost a third of the brand new parts. Thus we finally decided we were to move on & try this project

So we needed to know which parts were needed to make the facelift complete.

We started to analyze the components needed

On the face of it the project seemed quite easy

Just need front pair of lights & a new bumper with all the inserts & thats it.

we were in for a long 7 months to complete the job, the toil had just begun for the 1st Prius Alpha to have been facelifted to the new Design in Pakistan.

We asked Toyota Japan for help & they said they had no clue what could be needed to complete the facelift & as they had never received any such request before.

Their pessimism wasnt enough to ward us off this endeavor.

Hunt for the parts started & had to spend long hours searching the parts online, initially we wanted the front lights & bumper.

Bought a Front light & slightly damaged bumper that too with much difficulty.

this took at least a month

Parts for the old model are in ample supply but new model parts are very very rare.

So before the Facelift the car was in this condition, not very pristine.

After a long search finally got 1 Headlight, but as far as i can recall it was slightly damaged, after careful examination and discussion with an expert we bought the light as we guessed we could repair it locally and as mentioned used 2015 parts are still rare even in Japan.

So we had the first part for the uplift.

Now Finding the 2nd Headlight was becoming a difficult job since there were 3 types of lights for 2015 Model Alpha 7 may lights used to be Very New and expensive or Damaged so we had to be very patient in sourcing the 2nd light.

We had to look up the Part # of the 1st Headlight that we bought & then find a similiar light, after some serious toil now we had our Pair of Headlights, both were without bulbs but that wasnt an issue.

    Started looking for the bumper

most bumpers had slight issues but the main problem was none of the bumpers had the inserts e.g Grill, fog lamps, logo & tow bar base covers etc.

those which did have them were like sky high.

Tried hard looking for a bumper with all its fittings but couldnt find one so finally bought a Black Coloured bumper with extenders without any fittings.

1 extender was damaged so we decided we wud take the extenders off, since the didnt look too good anyways.
