Of course short wheel base works great in off-road conditions and in hilly areas, but it is at basic cost of comfort. You receive more bumps and the lighter weight of the vehicle makes it a breeze to overcome the obstacles.
Many years ago, I traveled with my elder brother to the north .. We were in a Suzuki 600 CC jeep. Just short of Naran, there was an avalanche. There was a long queue of vehicles stuck because of the huge pile of snow on the road. The queue was much longer on the Naran side.
My brother is a very brave driver. Evening was approaching and we had to make a decision. My brother decided to cross the avalanche ... People were amazed to see that the light Suzuki crossed very easily.
We reached the other side, and found that hundreds of people were stranded in Naran because of that avalanche. We slept at a Tandoor and paid "for a good quality hotel"
Anyways, next morning we decided to return. There was a 5-door Pajero. The owner was a "mummy-daddy) driver, and he could not manage the quick movements required to handle that kind of condition. A local jeep driver took over and keep on "punishing" the Pajero, but could not get through. Finally, the Pajero was towed to the other side by a snow shovel. Other vehicles were stuck too while trying to cross the snow.
It was such a delight to see that our Suzuki ... just glided over that difficult terrain.
LC is better than other vehicles of comparable weight and wheelbase .. however, its heavy weight ( a pre-requisite for comfort) is a pitfall for driving in the rough terrain.
BTW .. have you seen the Land Cruisers which are used in Iceland?
