the problem with oil on the chain is that is dissolves the grease in the rollers, the wax is that when it fluid being applied it actually works itself into the rollers and when dry stays there providing lubrication. Cheap makes sense only if you do not go astray from the original focus (which in this case is to provide lubrication to the chain)If you are in a terrible pinch, remove the chain, clean it out with kerosene etc and immerse in a solution of molten wax, grease and oil then let it dry. Its the oldest form of motorcycle chain maintenance. If you are assuming that plain oil/atf or anything in liquid state at room temperature will keep your chain lubed without being in "bath" form - you are mistaken. The reason most mechanics in Pakistan do not use wax is that they dont know what it is, you can buy it at any industrial supplies place. One can lasts for ages.
