GUYS i have answers to ur questions only if u listen and understand
basically when some one says tht some car is "computer controlled" he literally means tht its engine is distributor less (yes those 4 wires arent present tht go to the distributor) & instead the on-board computer handles its function.
now all distrubutor less cars are either PGMFI or MPFI, so 2001+ civics, XLI/GLI, Se Saloon, New CITY, Baleno, Santro are all computer controlled cars. Here, valve timings, power stroke duration, amount of air+fuel and other kinds of thermal process timings are controlled by the computer and as all default timings are stored, we call it PROGRAMABLE FUEL INJECTION.
now lets consider VTI, on revs below 4000 the computer optimises for economy, once u hit VTEC KICK IN point around 5000 revs the computer changes its profile, and now it opens intake valves for longer duration for more fuel+air, hence more power!!
for NEO, anyone of u who has it, just open the bonnet and check wether u see typical 4 wires going into spark plugs from distributor, if yes then its NOT PGMFI or computer controlled engine, if NO then its and engize is of latest breed. BUT as NEO came in late 90s and HONDA gave PGMFI in early 2000s (01vti+) so according to my guess NEO IS NOT PGMFI.
Lets Clear EFi, it means Electronic Fuel Inection. In this only fuel is injected electronically by computer. NO programmed timings for racing or fun, just for economy, thats why u see Santro gives good economy compared to cultus, alto. While New city gives better mileage too compared to older citys.
SUM UP!
cars without computer controlled or EFi engines are considered all mechanical, while new ones are computerised. SO which is better? definately computerised engines, as the electronics give u precision of fuel+air mixture, vavle durations in decimals, while in mechanics its not possible.
Now at certain areas i mite be wrong. but still i shared what i knew best. tc guys
