Mercedes Benz 300 SL (Gullwing) '54 | 1:18 | Minichamps
As a Mercedes enthusiast, the 300SL represents the "Holy Grail". I don't think one needs to be an aesthete to be able to fully appreciate how staggeringly beautiful this automobile is. To the naked eye, it's all about proportion, and although, in my opinion, this Merc isn't the epitome of perfect proportion, it's massive bonnet, and gently curved rear-end, along with that most striking of features that is the 'Gullwing' doors, and the way it sits planted on any surface, makes it unfathomably desirable.
As far as Minichamps' rendition of this historic street-worthy racing car goes, I was first taken aback by how heavy this 18-scaler is. It is for the most part, perfectly recreated, though I'd have liked the door-hinge details to have been crafted with a bit more love and care. Anyway, I cconsider myself lucky to be in possession of this rather special piece of automobilia. Currently, this baby sits perfectly cushioned right in the midst of my tee-shirt drawer, away from the hoi polloi.
That classic 50s interior...
