I have an idsi as well, im 90% sure that the doors do have side impact beams.

i think its safe to say and commonly known, that the more impact a cars body takes and absorbs it(including a crumple zone), the less shock is passed onto the passengers. i.e a car with stronger metal and little/no design for safety will pass alot of Gforce and shock to the passengers...maybe some one professional here can elaborate further
To conclude, id like to say we should judge a car not on its OWN survival, but the survival of its occupants in a crash.
