Assalam u Alekum everyonethis is my first thread on PakWheels. My dad bought this yamaha 80cc back in 1984.since then, the bike was used to the extreme as it was the only transport in the family. during the 1990s, Allah blessed us with a car and by 2006, my dad officially stopped using the bike. since then, its been standing in our backyard. i recently returned from abroad and am really interested in restoring it to its original condition. its frame is in original color, tanks and sides were painted once around 1998 but have faded again, front and back lights are original (believe it or not) even though the bike was doing around a 100kms/day upto its disuse. its going to leave for the workshop in a day or two.Things that i want to get done1. an engine overhaul with genuine yamaha parts2. complete paint job.3. new wiring, new battery4. chrome plating and nickel paint where ever needed.5. all other accessories that originally came with it6.whatever i can think off without overdoing anything
Suggestions and positive criticism are highly welcome. guys, do help me out on this one. i know its not a very complicated task but i dont want to mess up on this one. JazakAllahhere are some picks after i dusted the bike and got its tires running
the paint looks alot better in these picks but trust me, it needs to be re doneand the rust on the panels is clearly visible too.any suggestions with modifications? maybe painting the fenders black and match it with the black seat cover? maybe getting a maroon leather "poshish" for the seat? chromed side mirrors? broader rear tyre?i dont know. plz do help me out
a teacher in my school has this same exact bike, except he has added cng its a daily runner too.
@dr.omair.....im myself new lekin muje apka project kafi intersting lag raha he..the byke looks f9 by looks and can become a nice ride agr sahi se restoration ki jae@illdude....maybe u can take some pics of your teachers byke and help this post by giving suggestions. and by the way, CNG kese fit ho gai bike me? i bet its LPG kit...ap kuch pics attach karna if possible, coz i dont think any bike in Pakistan runs on CNG due to heavy cylinder and several other issues
lets hope that any experts around visit this thread and help u with the restorationwith regards to painting your front and back fenders dull black, i think its not a bad idea....hopefully other pplz suggestions will help u decideall the best for your project
NICE BIKE ..BEST OF LUCK ..its Japanese .. yeh its powerfull ..
@shoody...thanx for admiring, but work is still in progress.lets hope InshaAllah it comes out more beautiful than ever.n yes,its japanese and very powerful too. but i have a hunch the engine's pretty weak from all those years.....m really counting on a good overhaul
As salam u alekum guys!!!!!!!m really excited today coz i just handed over the motor bike to the mechanic at litton(hope i spelled it rite) road.hez an expert on yamaha but said he'll get it restored as it came from factory 26 years back.hez said hez gonna open everything up n change everything that needs to b changed.so far, it seems that almost everything needs an overhaul or replacement and im willing to go for it.i m keeping the estimate a secret but its definetely a little over what i had expected, even far more than the present value of this machine.anyways, do stay in touch all of u n pray for me. the bike will be ready in 10-12 days .i'll give the latest updates where ever possible
well, i went to the workshop today to c the progressthey've totally disassembld the bike and on opening, they've discoverd that alot of things ( nfact almost everything) need to be changed, replaced or fixd. the total estimate which was initially around 8000-12000 is well above 20000 at the moment.the bike's gone for paint and chrome, after that they'll start assembling it....and thats when i need to b present. i guess that would b a wonderful time to take pics and post them here. and thats not happening till the beginning of next month. till then, do stay in touch guys and dont hesitate in giving tips n suggestions....peace
I would suggest just chroming the rusted parts and touch-up on the chain guard. No need to repaint the whole bike. You could get the mechanical work done but otherwise I would suggest just touch up the bike only. Maybe clean it up a bit too.
Cool!Waiting for updates.
@mehran..thanx for the suggestions buddy. the bikes totally disassembled and wont mind a fresh paint job to go with the newly chromed parts. i know i can save a little money here n there but any older part would show up really bad with the new ones, so paint is to be done for sure@danyalahmad..thanx for staying in touch....will be posting pics soon InshaAllah. once they start reassembling the bike, thats when im gonna take the pics
we're eagerly waiting for updates...pics zurur post karna....very curious to c wat this bike turns out to be
Best of luck with your project mate and I really hope the finished bike is a stunner do keep updating the progress of the restore.
If it were my bike I wouldpowder coat the framehard chrome (flash) the fenders and handle bar and the little bits n bobs like the exhaust and pedals (hard chroming is expensive but will never ever rust or peel)take the engine apart and sand (bead) blast the centre crankcase pieces and cylinder head for the original clean aluminium look. And paint the carb cover along with the magneto cover.
And paint what needs to painted professionally.
The rest is new parts installation liketyreswiringbulbscableskeyetc. etc.
Its very very good practice to replace all engine screws with allen head screws and hot galvanize every nut, bolt and screw on the bike.
wah @doctor chaaa gayaaa
good luck for the operation!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
@Xulfi....thanx alot bro. i m definitely goin to take your advice seriously.actually the bike's frame was in original paint.even the tank n the sides had only been lightly sprayd previously. hence, simply scrapping off the original paint manually wud do the job and save me some money too as its already going WAY over my budget. but yes, im getting the best painter in lahore do the paint job, using the highest quality paint as per company specifications....well i dont know much abt hard chrome. i hope u shed some light on it,coz the fenders, handle bars etc etc have already gone for the regular nickel-chrome process(or watever its called...lol). if u explain to me in time, i'll tell the guys to stop the process n go for your suggestion instead @accord7362...thanx man..hope the operation goes well, patient comes out better n no ones killed
pics?????????wats the latest progress?
Yeah that sounds good.Get the frame, rear swing arm and other parts repainted.Get them painted by a painter who actually knows HOW TO PAINT because I have seen many tanks etc ruined by thes so called painters. While restoring my bike I hunted for the best painters available in Rwp and got it done by the best painter with the help of a senior member. Moreover get the nuts and bolts chromed and the crank case covers repainted.Good Luck and keep us updated.
@daniyalahmad......thanx for the advice and support buddy!! after letting the mechanic know that i want a genuine engine overhaul, the next thing on my mind was a 100% fit paintjob, n i wasnt shy to let the painter knw that if he gets the job messed up, i'll make him do it all over again.n yes i got a professional guy do the job ive been a little busy with some construction work in the house, so cudnt pay the mechanic a visit.hopefully InshaAllah the work will end tmrw n i'll go to the workshop the day after. thats when im definitely going to get the latest pics and get u guys updated.
