try to find a good example of the MB140D van. If you can find a clean example and know a few good mechanics who can service it. Its pretty good to own. The old 2.9 5 cylinder diesel is very tough to break.
Its FWD though - and the engine sits longitudnal meaning its like VW beetle, just backwards, so the clutch job takes an entire day to do as nearly the entire front of the van is taken apart.
If you choose japanese metal then any Hiace is good. They are pretty hard to find in good condition though unless you buy a new one. I personally liked the newer square ones.
