Dear fellow Pakwheelerz I am sharing my experience with you regarding an issue that made me go mad and ended up doing a lot of research in order to find a solution and thus I learned in the process anyways here are two of my posts that spell out the problem and.it's solution
The Issue:
when ever the car is started from cold start like in mornings or in evening after it has been sitting for hours or so it starts up fine and runs fine up till i have to brake and stop like on speed breakers etc the car tries to stall and sometimes it does stalls. but after five to ten min on the road it runs fine and doesnt stall but when ever i brake to stop at times it gives the feeling that the idle control valve is slow to respond as the rpms drop to 400/500 and then come back up. now this issue has come up after computerized tunning and tappet adjustment by the first owner , the car is very good condition otherwise and genuine 80000km. the problem is very irritating in the morning and the only problem in the otherwise excellent car, now in pursuance of the issue i have changed the icav with an untouched one from sher shah cleaned and cleaned the throttle body tried fiddling with the icav and manually increase the rpms but although that works but the issue comes back after the ecu relearns the idle setting and cancel the effect of my adjustment furhter i came to know that electronic tunning guys also fiddlled/messed with the idle mixture adjustment resistor that is behind the glove box next to ecu. now through forums on internet i have learned that the ima resistor is there to give a constant value inplace of second oxygen sensor in three way catalytic converter models that came in JDMs. so my question is that what do u think is the issue and if i am correct what resistive value should i keep it on beacuse i think when cold the ecu is thinking the engine is running lean and basically trying it adjust it through icav , moreover the car has been to honda drive inn and shah rae faisal and their mechanics have no clue except basic things like tappet adjustment , which has been done multiple times
solution
Update on the issue incase some one else faces the same issue, the problem has been fixed, after going through Internet for hours and hours I came across a paragraph by a mechanic on his blog that vtec honda engines tend to stall when car is coming to a stop. And run fine when warmed, if exhaust valves a over tightened now as I had mentioned in my earlier post that the problem emerged after the computerized tunning by first owner which included tappet adjustment and the same was adjusted by both honda drive in. And shah re faisal so initially didn't thought that valve clearance could be the issue, regardless opened up the head cover and did the valve adjustment by myself because turns out doing cold adjustment is an alien concept to most mechanics here it turnsout that exhaust valves were set at less than 8 thous and they are suppose to be between 9-11 same was the story with intake valves they were even less than 6 thous. so as I had feeler Guage in mm I adjusted the untakes at roughly 8 and exhaust at 10 just to leave things in the middle and xheck out the results. So all in all the car has become really smooth more responsive the dreadedstalling issue has vanished. don't know what kind of circus honda dealerships are running if they can't even adjust valve clearances properly. On a side note as I.mentioned earlier that I adjusted the valves on.middle values. the engine gives slight tick tick sound when warmed up so after valves are adjusted to 7 and 9 I am sure it will be gone too. More over I have also learned that valves clearances on honda vtec engines increase when they warm up and decrease when cold, don't know exactly why but that's what I have experienced and read.
Summary
Stay away from computerized tunning there is no such thing in Pakistan, they only hook up the obd device and read out the values ur ecu cannot not be adjusted atleast not in Pakistan and.not for few thousand rupees
Don't get tappet adjustment from honda dealerships get it done from ur trusted mechanics if u can't do it urself. Or best would be stand with ur mechanics and see what they are doing and what values are given by oem and what they are using
Google and YouTube is a blessing if you use them properly. Visit forum from us and Europe to find solutions. There is tons of knowledge and except certain differences international Hondas are mechanically very identical as compared to toyota. And suzuki.
Persistence, Patience and Prayers to God are very important when dealing with complex issues
