Respected members,
A fellow member asked me to share my experience of my recent SUVs, pros and cons. Currently the thread will be about a Nissan Patrol 1992(Y60) and Mitsubishi Pajero Gen3 DiD 3.2L. Feel free to express your opinions and ask questions
Starting with the Nissan:
Pros:
1)comparatively cheaper than competition(80 series Land Cruiser, 1992 Prado, 1992 Pajero)
2)Quite economical(8 local and 10 long) I had the diesel non-turbo, manual one, 12V
3)Immense Power and very comfortable
4)Parts are easily available
5) Air-con is chilling, I couldn't leave it on full in the July heat
6) Completely Mechanical, less complications
Cons:
1)Adults can't sit comfortably in the second compartment, no leg room at all
2)The turning radius is too long, annoyingly long
3)Well compared to a toyota(little resale)
Overall a lovely buy, but the lack of leg space is unacceptable, the low roof has that fault fixed. Besides this, in its price, nothing can beat it, atleast not off road.
Coming to the Gen3 Pajero(DiD 3.2L)
Pros:
1) Drives like a car, very comfortable
2) Ample space for 7 people
3) 5 speed auto, seemless shift
4) Electronic 4wd, can be engaged while moving
5) Trip-tonic gearbox, fun both on and off-road
Cons:
1) Requires a lot care and attention, as most things are electronic, not everyone can work on it
2) Spares are quite expensive
3) Low resale
4) Expensive spares, was too scared to put it to any major off-roading test but was quite comfortable in minor off roads
This is a perfect family SUV for the people who mostly use it on paved roads, drives like a car, looks beautiful and has ample space. But just remember to stay away from faulty ones, once they go wrong, they can be a huge pain in the rear end, HUGE! .
