AoA Guys!I own a 2006 model vitz (1KR-FE Odometer: 120000 KM). Since from day 1 I have been using 10W-40 Grade oil for my car without any issues; however, from past 2 months i have observed that AFTER (NOT BEFORE) 3000KM the oil level decreases a bit (about 3 4mm). If fill up again it decrease again after 1500 KM to the same level. I first concluded that the rings are worn out but there is no blue smoke from the exhaust (even i rev up the engine) and there are no visible leaks.
Any guesses about the problem? what about valve seals? i have heard that sign of poor valve seals is blue smoke while cranking or reving up the engine.
ask someone to start the car (first start in morning) and observe the tail pipe for smoke. if you see smoke ,valve seals are bad.
Best is a compression test
What is the grading of the engine oil you are using eg api sl, sg???? And also mention the oil company you are using. After these info we will be able to accurately diagnose your problem.
Oil of which maker?
Shell, caltex, pso, mobil, liqui moly, valvoline, royal purple, toyota techron, ............. and the list goes on.
This is the oil i have been using.
Ok time to shift up you had totally ignored the highest thermal efficiency of the oil according to your home town and its sweet heat . Ok now find the 20w-50 zic x5 series engine oil and pour it in the engine. Keep it running till. 4000kms and keep an eye on the engine oil level keep checking it every after 500 kms. And post the result here then we can decide which oil viscosity will now serve you the best. Do this before winter arrival to acheive better results by choosing a best viscosity for you for all seasons. Good luck. And throw this oil out of your vehicle immediately.
Okay but 20W-50 isnt too viscious? Like i read some threads regarding oil for vitz and the mention 5W-30 etc.
And today i was searching on the internet and found another possibility of bad PCV Valve.
I had the exact same problem.Get PCV cleaned (should cost you 300/- of labour) and engine Flushing 2-3 times continuously with each oil change (may be with Liquimoly engine flush) and your problem will get resolved.

Get a compression test done, your engine is 120k kms... and at the high mileage it is very probable that the tapids need work
Are you facing mileage or acceleration/power issues?
