    Dear Asad, AA. I believe you live in Abbottabad and have been to the KKH. Can you please confirm the condition of the road to Chillas via Babusar. I am told by some people from Naran that it has been completely widened and mostly metalled making it good enough for cars to cross. Idrees, a known guide from Naran told me but I would like to confirm before I embark on this trip. If this road is completed, driving to Gilgit will be a pleasure as I dread driving from Besham to Sazin which will be avoided.
    The last time I crossed Babusar on a bike was probably in 1980 and then the conditions were bad. Please confirm and oblige.

    @khanmomar
    I came back via Babusar, but that was in June. The road is being built, but it will take a while. Most of the road building work was being done between Chilas and Babusar. From Babusar to Lulusar they were just widening the dirt track. They may have completed most of the road by now, but they were making a new track/road, over the hills, from Jalkhad to beyond Basel to avoid the streams. I don't think that could be completed this year. The road from Naran to Jalkhad (40km) was metalled 3 or 4 years ago and is in very good condition.

    The road may be completed next year, or at least, drivable on a car. Don't make any plans to use the route before mid-May next year, even on a bike. I will try to contact someone in Kaghan to check the current status and then post here.

    I am looking for saddle bags, tank top bags and/or other accesories for carrying luggage on long trips, for my GS150. Does any one know where I can get this stuff? Preferably in Rawalpindi or Lahore.

    Also, does anyone sell readymade racks (carriers) for GS150.

    @Asad

    I had a tough time looking for the luggage carrier for my GS 150. I finally found out that ready-made carriers are not made for this bike. Finally I reached the biggest accessory specialist in the motorcycle market of Mcleod road who attached a carrier with the original chrome rod. I doesn’t look nice but works. Now I plan to get a box placed on it. Plastic/Vinyl suitcase like boxes are available. They are good looking but can be brittle so I might get a steel box made by the denter who routinely fabricates radiator shields. It wont cost much.
    As far as side boxes or saddles are concerned, I would not recommend them as they can affect the balance of the bike; something absolutely unaffordable. I would rather suggest you to stack your luggage on the back seat and the carrier.
    BTW. How was the climbing ability of GS150 when you were crossing Babusar? How much of a problem was its weight (119kg)?
    Regards
    Omar

    @khanmomar

    Thanks for the info. I will see if I can get time to do the stuff in Lahore. Right now I am stacking the stuff on the passenger seat, but extra space on top of fuel tank and small to medium saddle bags would be nice. It is necessary for the camping trips I intend to make next year.

    There is no problem with the climbing ability of GS, I have checked it elsewhere, including Khunjerab pass. At Babusar, the problem was soft clay on the freshly cut track and it had rained for an hour. The excavator had just made the track but it was still not compacted by road rollers or regular tractor/trolley traffic. Since I weigh over 80kg and there was luggage for a 7 to 9 day trip, including emergency food stuff, overall weight was well over 200kgs. The wheels got stuck in the mud or clay a few times. There shouldn't be any problems next year.

    @malikg115

    Thanks, last month when I was in Lahore, I went to Bilalganj. But I couldn't find something appropriate that would fit without a lot of modification. Their asking rates were too high as well.

    I have bought water-proof saddle bags (actually rear carrier bags) for mountain-bike, I might modify those for the rear seat. Plus get a good, water proof, squarish bag for the tank and put some straps under it.

    Still, a good carrier rack gives a lot more options.
