Default Suzuki GS150 : Black Swan

    Asalam O Alikum PW Members.

After the quest of finding a bike for personal use, over a month spent in constant questions, I purchased a Suzuki GS150 today. Bike is Alhumdulliah good in running. Had a few minor queries for which mechanic is not available at the moment. Invoice price was 114500/- but I got it in 115000/- PKR from Suzuki Mangla Motors.

Looking forward to the ride and a prayer to Almighty Allah for a safe and present experience. Ameen.

    Update:

    1) Having 'Tuk' Sound while gear change. Seems like chain issue but don't know exactly.
    2) Bike having issues staying start.

    Need guide brothers. @12guage & @dr.omair

Exactly, this is what i don’t like in GS and prioritizes RP in my list which has excellent road grip with disk brake and well balanced bike.

GS150 is an excellent Power Bike and truly a RoadKing for long tours, kabhi RIMs RP/Deluxe walay or Front Disc stock GS men ye log de den tu GS UnDefeated Champ ban jaye Pakistan ka.

this is true RP's Disc saved me from evident accidents many times just becuase it nails into the road where u apply the brakes..

lekin aik dafa men Disc ki wja say slip ho ker gir bhi gya tha becuase I applied brake while taking sharp cut... he he he he

Men sirf apko itna bta sakta hon k Paiggio ka ya Deluxe ka mukamal Disc brake set front ka roughly 4500 ka hai, usky sath apko CG/Rp Hub khareedni ho gee or Front Shocks ka set bhi jinki price ka andaza mujhe bhi nahi hai

han Used market say I think 3~7k men fonrt break tyar ho jati hai ...

Deluxe /RP ky Rims ka set tu market men say rate apko mil jaye ga change hota rehta hai ,..

i got broken wrist from riding yamaha xs650 1980 model back in college days which is equipped with 2 disk in front 1 in rear.
suffered from broken foot too while riding kawasaki gto125 which have front disk.
cd200 with drum brake was just fine never had any problem.
gs150 got good brakes with 100-90/18 tire in rear. just need good mechanic to adjust the brakes to perform at it best. ( factory setting is pathetic).
problem normally found in riders are that they most of the time apply only rear brake totally neglecting the presence of front brake which is equally required to apply when braking.
also 1 need to understand the stopping distance of the bike in relation to speed .
i am not against disk brake but drum brake in gs150 do the required job.

    kind regards

^^^ same opinion bro. GS got very good braking power. It's breaks are effective.
The culprit is only rear skinny tire.

ha ha ha ha haha Sir IMHO every body has his own opinion but archon Sb. even if we get it tuned by a good mechanic still some things are factual.. I found GS150 Specially front brake 4/10 in comparison to RP/Dlx 10/10 front wheel braking isay bara bol na sajhye ga but I am fully aware of using both brakes all together infact its actually the front brake which actually stops a Bike rear brake works as a stabilizer, but GS150 has a mini drum brake in front which is totally un-realistic for any rider to accept as a proper brake for bike with 12BHP on rear wheel...

Even a CG125 10BHP revised its brakes to Disc system abroad two decades ago (so Off-course there was a dire need which Honda felt) even our most loved AHL125 has a mighty Drum Brake in front if you notice to stop a mini rocket, so by that means the engineers at work on those facilities do did some math before upgrading the brake system, the Only reason I see GS150 has poor tyres and Poor brakes is to make it cost effective nothing else.

After I saw GS150 brakes badly failing to stop its wheel rotating at high speed I still did not advised @dr.omair to actually go for a disc brake upgrade but suggested him to use a RoadMaster Drum brake in front because it is as powerful as our Disc. But @dr.omair found another technique of using half Cut Brake Shoes he explained it will increase braking of bike even with this mini drum brake so if it goes successful we might not need to change the drums at all.

Rahi baat braking distance ki tu If you have a disc brake tu ap bilkul mokay per pohanch ker bhi Bike ko akheer narrow stoppie mar sakty ho (Done that to extreme) where as in case of drum brakes I am afraid You cant tail gate or narrow stoppies even i remember an accident where I helped to tow the bike to road side where some one applied extreme brake and the Brake cable just slipped and Drums failed.

I think it would be a bad idea k brand new bike ko alter kiya jaye

I think u must use the stock bike jitni der chalti hai chalo jab tyre Ghis jaye tu 90/90-18 Service dalwa lena no more then that.. bcuase GS has a very Slim RIM and any bigger tyre would become round in shape and lose its performance and also look very Ugly/Still Slim due to Slim RIM.

Rahi baat brake ki tu if you dont race/Rev hard then why bother.

On the other Side If you are Crazy about it then:

WiderTyre : Fatter RIM both Front and Read, Fatter Tyre, may be you will need to revise spokes

Better Brake Id Disc then a Big Kharcha if only Big Drum then little Kharacha.

and for all of the above alteration lots and lots of khajal Khuwari.

vicky many thing which we don't understand i found many of the old timer mechanic understand.
a week earlier i manage to meet a honda mechanic of 1970's a very very old ustad and a gold medalist mechanic from honda japan and when i say ustad i mean ustad.
i was in same position with front brake of gs150 which u explained damm thing was not working as its suppose too.
request the old timer to look into it and believe me it took him only few minutes to fix it believe it or not works like charm.
enjoying the pleasure of disc like braking in front brake of gs150.
in pakistan we have lack of training institute and to be very frank we all look for expensive solution whether it works on not.
btw i know yr skills on bikes so i was not pointing towards u on using both brakes on bikes that was a general saying.

i cannot say anything on RPS braking as haven't tried it never rode 1.heard its good bike.
but do we really need to go that fast so that we need to apply brake in emergency?.
tracks are different place to be on.

Yes There do exist magicians in our contry and i also Agree on the above...

but I still think relying on small brake/thinner tyre with big engine is not a nice idea if its my bike I would definitely keep it ready for that day when i do a mistake and would need it (becuase If I look back on who I have been riding I hear a voice vicky you need a smaller engine and a bigger brake ).

but I still think relying on small brake/thinner tyre with big engine is not a nice idea if its my bike I would definitely keep it ready for that day when i do a mistake and would need it (becuase If I look back on who I have been riding I hear a voice vicky you need a smaller engine and a bigger brake ).
Brakes are the most important things in a vehicle and should be given top priority
