It would appear that solution posted by @jadoon1992_vxlimited is in fact quite a valid one. i opened up the front sprocket cover to check for any play in the sprocket but didnt find any (no wiggling or anything, perfectly seated). but then i found a ton of grime in the area and on the inside of the sprocket cover as well, so decided to go all-in and clean the mess up. when i opened the chain cover i discovered that the rear sprocket has at least 3-4mm play in it(it moves around just before tyre starts its rotation). So solution might be valid in this case.
BTW the chain cover is really rubbish, i found rusting inside it and the bottom had collected solid mud in it (its a problem by design, as the middle of the chain is uncovered). GS quality is REALLY REALLY pathetic these days
the front sprocket cover is made out of plastic. @synchrony @jadoon1992_vxlimited do your bikes have plastic sprocket covers as wel?
