What's the difference between both these oils? I'm nearing my 2nd oil change. Should i go for any one of these or go for shell?

    The difference is as follows:

Ultimate is an API SM grade, where as the Premium is an API SG grade.
There's a rule in reading lubricant specs and what they mean in layman terms.
API grades starting with "S" means SPARK which is the main characteristic of a PETROL engine!!! API grades starting with a "C" means COMBUSTION which is the main characteristic of a DIESEL engine.....
NOW, stating it very clearly that both these are meant primarily for PETROL engines!
How you read these grades is fairly simple. The higher the alphabet goes on the alphabet table, the better the quality of specs and additives or base oil it is blended from. therefore, SM is much superior than SG !!!!!!!!!!!!
Coming down to the viscosity index, where here is 10w40: this means that between what temperatures on the viscosity table can the lubricant hold it's true properties to clean, prevent and protect. Both being the same here in this case we'll just have to see the API specs alone to determine which one's better.

Hence: the conclusion one can derive from this long lecture is SGO ULTIMATE (SM 10w-40) is far better than SGO PREMIUM (SG 10w-40)!

also, selecting your lubricants be it shell's or PSO's or Caltex's - one should know as to what the engine specs are and what the OEM recommendations are with respect to the API grades and viscosity - so select your lubricant's accordingly.

Whenever I rev my car to red line the cabin gets filled with a burning smell, burning plastic or something like that.
Does it happen with every swift?
    ANyone knows the reason?

Same thing happens here. It's not that I rev very often but hard accelration in 1-2-3 upshift @ 4000-5000 rpm fills the cabin with a slightly odd (buring like) odor.

Im using the oil provided by Suzuki dealership.
    What year is your car?
My friend has a 2010 swift, there is no such smell in his car

I once read somewhere on PW its the smell caused by the catalytic converter present in newer cars. Is that true?

It's everything the manufacturer suggests. The car recently got its 10K km service. Let's see whether it continues or not.

A minor correction. C in diesel oil is fro compression. As diesel engine is compression ignition and combustion engine and not spark based like petrol. I wish we had diesel variant of swift here, because such a hatchback with a gutsy diesel is extra hot in my opinion.

I think this is again chinese and available easily in the market for 18k.

Suzuki will now launch Swift with Navigation and DVD (similar unit) in its Automatic variant from March. DLX will still have the Alpine unit.

Check the fuel. The number one cause of engine knock and poor mileage. If possible, switch to HOBC completely.

Need some urgent help from everyone

Need some help in regards to my Swift. When parked overnight the mice seem to like the hood for shelter purposes and have been visiting it quite often over the time. They have chewed the security alarm wire off and the air filter sensor's once. I will soon be visiting the Suzuki people to check if any other wire has been chewed off...So i am here for the permanent solution. How to keep them out. cant close the bottom or the engine bay as they can enter it still through any other nook and cranny. Any totka to keep them out.
The engine bay is a mess with chalia wrappers and what not for their hole and they have regularly urinated on the engine cover and air filter cover..
