    Default 2010 Swift advice

    As.slam.ul.alaqum

    I recently bought a 2010 suzuki swift DLX.. It has done 66k on odometer.. For 8.25 lakhs..

    Just after i bought it i changed the tires, change the air filter, refilld the brake oil, service the spark plugs.. Mechanic told me i didnt need to change them or the engine oil right away..

    I drive the car in Karachi.. From malir to korangi 70 km trip daily.. I usually dont use the AC when i go to hospital in the morning but turn it on in the evening..

    So now..

    Its giving me 10k/L with 50% Ac and 8k/L with 100% Ac.. When every one told it give 13-12k/L with 100% Ac..

    I asked for your advice you all suggest to keep rpm below 2.. But it didn't improve the mileage.. Not even a bit!!.. I tired the tire pressure thingy too it didn't work..

    I use to drive a Cultus 2011 Which use to gave me 150km on a single cylinder.. Pura week k 1500rs k kharcha.. And pura month k 6000 rs. Plus i get to drive the car the way i want without caring for rpm and all the time AC!!..

    On swift the fuel budge just jump to 12k for month!!! It DOUBLED.. @$!!#
    I was expecting 8 or 9k..but
    I can't afford 12k..

    Kindly guide me about this should i sell this Swift and Go back to Cultus??
    Or
    Should i go for CNG?? And mileage it will give me on that??

    Chalo insha allah k sensor issue will resolve..

    Any idea how much you friend was getting out of full cylinder!!..
    Lolz...
    In shaa Allah check light issue will be sorted out shortly.
    Here in punjab you can easily get kit+cylinder around 8k to 10k.

    Friend was getting around 160 to 180 per cylinder.

    And don't worry about mileage in shaa Allah it will get better for you. You won't believe once I've got 18.9kmpl on long with hypermiling...

    I've added spacers and so far haven't scratched by any single breaker...but about Spare tyre scratches you are quite right, though so far didn't used spare tyre as all tyres were changed recently.

    Just need to find a good fitter. I did not opted for advancer as that need to cut wiring of different sensors which also cause check light. Mechanic advised me to live without advancer. According to him draw back just lack of pick.
    Where as there is another option to get rid of check light which is to install a lambda kit. Lambda cost was 10k in pindi but did not opted as different mechanics were telling to stay away from lambda as it can be tuned,configure by computer only and you will be in great trouble while traveling to long in case of any problem with lambda etc.

    I was more inclined towards lambda sensor but there was not even a single good installer for lambda, one of colleague had lambda installed in GLI 2011 and he met with huge hassle in naran, at the end he bring the car by a jeep of recovery service by tow chain and they charged him for 30 thousand.
    Moreover everyone was refraining me that it cause a lot of peoblem in long run...thats why went for the only option/alternative...

    When i asked him what he did tu he said he RESTARTED car's computer..
    So configure to new setting.. When i check the car tu the dash clock and deck clock bohat were restarted too..

    Yes you are quite right as ECU is configured according to manufacturers settings. You can calibrate it temporarily but it'll get back to its actual configuration.

    After having kept Swift DLX for 4.5 years and driven over 110,000kms including a couple of Pakistan trips (KHI to Nathiagali) in it, here is my feedback on the matter:

    1) In-city driving, with a light foot, air pressure 29/29, and with ADVAN dB Yoko tyres, the max I get is 11km/litre;

    2) On-highway driving, same tyres, max I have gotten, was 14.5kms on a 4,500km trip;

    Following steps will help you get the above-mentioned 11km/ltr mileage within city:

    - Weekly cleaning of air filter, radiator and AC grill as well as cabin filter (behind glove compartment) helps improve fuel economy;

    - Increasing air pressure to 33/31 can bring your in-city fuel consumption up to 12.5 km/ltr, but that would be at the expense of a bumpy/bouncy ride;

    - Personally, my fuel efficiency has been better with ND Iridium spark plugs as compared to NGK's normal (stock) plugs;

    - Fill your tank with TOTAL fuel and stay far away from PSO. Based on lab test results carried out in 2008/09, in Pakistan, TOTAL fuel is the most refined and hence fuel efficient, after which comes Shell, then Caltex (recently acquired by TOTAL) and last comes PSO;

    - Also get your ECU settings checked at one of the better 3S Suzuki Dealership near you and ask the technician to check whether the configeration is optimised for optimal fuel efficiency.

    Hope the above helps improve your fuel efficiency.

    In my personal opinion, at the moment, among all the PKDM hatchback options available, the Swift offers great value for money and balances comfort, reliability, exterior looks, interior and features. For the price (Rs. 1,088,000) I paid for my brand new swift back in 2011, I think I've gotten more than my money's worth. And with me waiting for the Civic to be launched in July, I'm still thinking about keeping this Swift as a second errand-car.
