    Default Engine Oil Recommendation

I have bought Swift DLX 2012 model (150,000 km). Previous owner was using Kixx 0w40 engine oil.
I want to ask if I should continue using this oil or change to Zic, what is your recommendation on it?

Zero viscosity not needed for Pakistan climate, specially this hot season. Go for a bit thicker oil like 10W40.
For API grading (SL, SM, SN etc) check its owner's manual

you can continue using it if you want to, no harm. the 0 wont give you any benefit but not any harm as well, as hot viscosity is 40 which is fine. i have been using 0W-40 mobil 1 in all my cars local or imported and there is nothing to worry about in summers or winters. although other non fancy viscosities and oils will work just as good in your car so up to you if you want change and use something thats maybe more economical and as good or you can continue using this with absolutely no problem in any season.

infact i would prefer 0W-40 over 5W-30 anyday for hot season in some local cars, like corolla where the oil temperature range chart does not alllow 5W-30 to be used in summers while others (honda) can use 5W-30 all year round in hot weather, so check your owner manual too. 0W-40 though is fine for all though.

Here is the drop scene guys, I went to the oil shop and the guy said, since my engine has run more than 160,000 km so thin oil is not recommended at all. He recommended Kixx 10W40 oil. Assuming he was master of his trade I went for it. What do you guys think?

10w40 is suitable according to current climate and ODO reading for your car.

SGO Ultimate is 10/40 too which is recommended by Suzuki Japan for all swifts and lianas. I too use 10/40 for my 120k km driven car

Guys, my car is reaching 30k on odo soon and it's oil change time is getting near. I have put Shell HX7 5w-30 previously and should I use the same this time?

When I had got this oil I was told how it's okay to use this for 5000 kms but I'm a little worried still so changing it at 4450 kms.

Also please recommend what oil filter to use.

I've not had any problems so far and Alhumdullilah the car has been purring like a happy kitten.

    Thanks.

why you didnt stick with oil grade mentioned in owner's manual? 10w40 is recommended however 5w40 and 0w40 are acceptable as well.

Use suzuki genuine oil filter from dealerships and for oil, go for ZIC XQ 5w40 (now names as X9) or Caltex 5w40, both are fully synthetic.

First of all Thank you very much for replying as I was hugely concerned in this matter.

I did not stick with suzuki oil because I would rather prefer putting something better in my car like Shell etc than Suzuki ka basic oil which might be substandard or "doo number".

I agree with you on getting oil filter from genuine suzuki outlet but still don't think if I should put 5w-40 in it.

Someone once said that it is not a good idea to keep on changing engine oil too often so please suggest what will be the harm if I stick to Shell HX7 5w-30?

Are there any drawbacks and if so what might they be ?

    Thank you

i meant to say that stick with oil viscosity mentioned in swift's owner manual. Suzuki oils are a big no as there are much better alternatives available, esp. Zic XQ.

For guidance on oil viscosity grades you may google it, in simple words these grades are related to temperatures and in Pakistan, 5w40 & 10w40 are best considering the weather.

Brother thanks a lot for your input.
    I really appreciate it.

Finally put Shell Helix HX5 10w-40 in my car today and all the mechanics and experts have agreed that it is a good option.

Engine Oil price = 2160 Rs.

Try this one imported from Japan by Attock and it is a great oil. I tested 20w-50 in my Mehran E2 and I feel nice change in acceleration and reduced noise, compared to Suzuki genuine oil 10w-40.
