Agree with your points. Drove a grande recently. Overall good car, very comfy on bumps and breakers. Dash materials, steering etc were good enough imo. Styling was on the bland side though.
I mentioned this before, to me the current corolla feels like im on a boat. At higher speeds im floating and I didnt feel I had proper control (only went upto 90-100). Agree on the acceleration, from a standstill significant delay when starting to move after which I would overcompensate and press it too much. Though that would be something one has to get used too.
Brakes I thought were fine however. It does indeed feel big on space.
I only sat in the civic on display. Lower profile, seating etc. Reminded of the accord euro I had. Im sure it would feel more planted on the ground, not give a boat type ride. I thought the soft touch areas of the dash were equally good as the grande. Steering felt better a bit. Button control area on the steering though felt a bit cheaper than grande. Styling for sure better. Whatever that leather material is seemed poorer than grande's.
So at the end im sure both have its plus and negatives. For me at least the biggest few reasons to get a civic over corolla (leaving aside quality issues and a few differences here and there etc) is the lower ride height and seating, vsa+ess, smart entry and anchor points on the rear parcel.
The person whos grande I drove wanted a higher ride height and softer ride given where he drives, and I respect that.
