The market for two cars is very different:
City/ civic is preferred bY urbanites who look for creature comforts. City esp if often provided to managers in multi nationals and many many women with disposable incomes prefer to get a city on lease or all cash . Civic is provided to directors who again care for comforts
Corolla esp xli has an all together different market. The reason civic sales bombed with the recent launch of toyota was tht for once the grande was competing head on with civic for its niche market. Toyotas top down strategy rather than bottom up paid dividends.
Xli in auto will probably workout by carving into sales of xli. Those looking into good resale, rural origins where an auto tran might hold some traction as compared to abs or power windows. It may or may not proove successful but its definitely shows lateral thniking on part of imc. If they are able to entice the xli buyers into going for auto trans it may pay handsomely for them. Its not cutting edge tran anyhows its a 4 speed unit; convincing the traditional xli buyer will require some work
