The problem here is that even dealerships have their own views and ways of working. I personally got my grande minor work done like tuning from toyota rawal motors and toyota islamabad motors. Technical advisor of both dealerships had different views. They guy from TIM said there is no need to clean cvt filter after oil change if oil is not much dirty. He said never wash cvt oil filter with fuel as it has a foam element and it gets damage. Always change it if it’s dirty. They even don’t do any cvt calibration which i think is right and need. It’s only done when gear is changed with new one and u need to align software and hardware compatibility.

My grande is 2018 model and 40,000 kms. I got it’s cvt oil changed yesterday after 4 years passing. Oil pan was open and it was slightly dirty. Oil was ok but there was a slight change in colour. Cvt filter was and it was cleaned with petrol. Lots of blackish liquid came out of it. After cleaning it was installed back. Cleaned the pain put the gaskit back with sight silicone application to prevent leakage. After that new oil was poured and level was checked. It was a simple procedure. My mechanic did it at my home. 4 litres of cvt Fe costed 7800. Now the gear shifting is smooth. On next cvt oil i will at exact 40,000 kms or two years whichever comes first and will see if cvt filter needs to be changed. My mechanic it gives no harm to the filter when cleaned with petrol. Few cars like gli auto has steel sheet inside gear filter and not element which does not needs to changed.

For fuel filter only change the small filter which is fitted on fuel pump. The bigger plastic fuel filter can be cleaned and can last till 100,000 kms or more depending upon the quality of fuel being used. Best is to get bigger filter cleaned every 20,000 kms like this it will never get very dirty and chocked.

I got my grande’s 2018 cvt oil changed yesterday from my mechanic. He has worked in different dealerships like suzuki, kia and now working in MG. I have also checked on YouTube and toyota dealership there is no such like temperature maintenance or cvt oil calibration. You need to let car cool down for atleast 2-3 hours so that cvt gear gets cool. As the cvt belt and solenoid gets damaged when hot oil is changed. So it’s very important for car temperature cool down. After that drain old oil, open pan, clean magnets, pan and filter with petrol. Fit everything thing. Top up oil level. Start the car put it in all gears for few seconds. Open the drain nut again to see of oil comes out or not. If oil does not come out add more oil till it drains from below. Once oil starts coming out from drain means oil level is ok. Close the nut and ur done. Keep the car start for few minutes to check any leakage.

One important thing is there is black O ring which is seated on filter neck. It keeps the oil pressure optimum. Always ensure when fitting filter back that o ring is installed back. Else it will cause transmission shifting issues. Rest it’s a simple and no need to wory.

With my personal experience mostly mechanics at dealerships are lul( sorry for the word but this describes them best). Very few have sound technical know how of cars. I am very happy with my mechanic. He has been fixing my cars for the last 13 years. Good thing i get all work done at my home. I have got all tools and hydraulic jack, ramps and stands to lift car up. One can say i have a mini workshop at home.

did your mechanic raise the front of the car only or raised the whole car evenly?

To check level of cvt oil, you have to do it at certain temperature of cvt fluid.

It’s official method by Toyota.

Your mechanic might be ok compared to others but not doing it the proper way.

yes,

all overflow type fills of automatic gearboxes have a fluid level check at a very specific range of temperature, Most mechanics in Pakistan forget to level the car straight while doing this. The service literature doesnt mention it either as it assumes the mechanic has a service lift for this job which lifts the car evenly.

If the oil is drained and checked while front is on jacks or ramps the oil level will be incorrect.

And I fail to understand why people are extremely cheap on car repairs and dont buy new filter for this job. They are happy to have them washed with petrol and reinstalled, How and when is petrol a cleaning agent? and how do you get the trapped debris out of the pleated element of the filter media.

Do these same people also use petrol to clean their oil filters and have it installed back because "genuine part hai"?
