Power too is increased a tiny bit because of longer stroke and the resulting increased torque. For 1 point around 3 percent increase of Hp.

Toyota fanboys all over here, GLI 1.3 was perfect for them which was producing 84hp with heavy body. But for them City 1.2 will be underpowered which having 89hp with less body weight than GLi.

For 3 stage vtec in d-series engines, honda was using 3 camshaft lobes to have 3 different profiles, as for 2 of the modes, both intake valves were sharing one cam lobe. I assume for l15a7, the 2 intake lobes are providing different profiles and both valves share lobes. The 1.5 revving harder and making more power per liter than the 1.3 and 1.2 does not make much sense as only stroke is increased, which should reduce revving potential and increase power, but not as much as expected. It seems like l13 and l12 are using the usual economy vtec while l15 has the more power focused vtec helping it in the high range.

Absolutely right 1.3 GLI was 84 hp and had a body/dry weight of approx 1280 Kg....people use to drive it like Lamborghini.....

City is like 1120/ 1150 Kg...would not be underpowered with a 89hp engine for sure...

BUT my wife's JDM ALTO Turbo RS which is like hardly 550 Kg has a 84hp engine...

I have seen many times pakwheelers calling Civic X underpowered therefore calling a 1.2 City underpowered is no surprise.

All of these guys are requested to plz share pictures of their Lamborghinis so that we can hit 'Like'.

city 1.2 with cvt might struggle a bit and i guess this is where the critisizm is pointing at. Given how poor honda cvts are, I think there is some weight in this argument but not as much as exaggerated in this forum. In my opinion Honda is trying to undercut yaris 1.3 as well as the future suzuki swift 1.2 NA and Hybrid with its own 1.2 offering. I may be wrong about it but this is what I have been able to understand so far. The 1.5l fully loaded city will definitely compete with yaris 1.5, no surprises there.

As if toyota yaris has some W16 2000 HP engine which makes it league apart. Its only 9 HP more than 1.2 city and people are hyping it up as if it is some super car. These peak HP figures are most of the times misleading (engineering explained video) and have almost zero utility in daily driving (peak HP contributes to the top speed) since initial torque curve for both 1.2 and 1.3 litres is almost identical.

Civic X has an absolutely pathetic gearbox which delays the acceleration but it is by no means underpowered. Unfortunately with the amount of useless drkvers on the road nowadays i am shocked how some people can't even accelerate an automatic car properly. I have legit beaten Civic's in a city which should be logically impossible, the other day i beat a Turbo civic with my oriel which again Should be impossible, i seriously fail to understand how people fail to drive an auto car properly

There is no way 1.2 and 1.33 have the same torque curve or are even anywhere . Yes Peak hp is irrelevant. But Toyotas have better low end torque and Honda going down to 1.2 will make the low end torque difference even more pronounced.

The biggest issue 1.2 fans are ignoring is that the 5th Gen 1.3 city with manual was just barely acceptable. Anything below it will feel terrible and with a few passengers, 1.2 will be terrible to drive due to a huge amount of load on it.

Also why should we give atlas a pass just cause corolla used to have an even lower powered engine? Senseless defence. It doesn't excuse the city 1.2 from being underpowered.

Its not underpowered otherwise keep calling it whatever it doesnt matter. Secondly, yes in the initial rpms both 1.2 and 1.33 have almost identical torque curve, depending upon the tune which I believe to be on the economy side for engine in yaris

I've always been able to out accelerate any civic X with my city 1.3 manual. Once even somehow gave a civic X tough time with my corolla 1.3 manual which has fuel supply issues at high RPMs. A properly hard driven manual is always better than autos on these econoboxes.

I've never properly driven the civic X, but the few times I've been in it, it felt slower than the old 9th and 8th gen civics. All owners I know also complain about it feeling a lot slower than they expected. While yeah it isn't exactly underpowered, but it goes to show that CVT didn't help it's performance and economy much compared to older civics with the r18. So we shouldn't expect much from the 1.2 CVT.
