Absolutely correct.
I have a corolla xli 2015 at 165,000kms, driven by my driver.
Following is the complete list of maintenance that I have done so far. Never relied on 3S Dealers.
Oil and Oil Filter at every 10,000kms
Air Filter at every 10,000kms clean and 20,000kms replace
A/C cabin filter at every 20,000kms replace
Spark plugs at every 20,000kms. My car has copper electrode normal spark plugs.
Tyres around 50,000kms all 5 including spare. I am using standard Eurostar tyres. Now I have 4th set installed. plus wheel balancing.
Gear oil Toyota original GL-4, 75W-90 replaced at 120,000kms
Fuel Filter Toyota original replaced at 120,000kms
Drive belt replaced at 120,000 kms just precaution otherwise condition was ok
Rear shock absorbers replaced at 60,000kms based on condition; leaking oil. I suspect manufacturing fault.
Front shock absorbers replaced at 120,000kms based on condition, leaking oil.
Battery replaced twice once when car was new; changed to MF battery. Later second battery around 100,000kms.
Brake pads changed at 160,000 kms based on condition. Brake discs have normal wear considering mileage so no work done on discs.
No throttle body service so far. Car idles perfect and has reasonable milegae. I occasionally use some injector cleaning fuel additive like from liqui moly etc.
Only once I have added coolant in 165,000kms running. It was Toyota genuine pink.
Other servicing is normal washing. Engine bay wash only once a year and that too when engine is cold along with radiator and A/C condenser cleaning.
In the nutshell, these vehicles are very reliable. You are in fact reducing their life if you over do the maintenance especially when you know even 3S workshops do not use proper tools and procedures.
