And after filling ourselves with the magnificent views of Rakaposhi we continued towards Karimabad, Hunza. The road was mostly off road, and the average speed slow.
The sun was setting already when we arrived in Aliabad, a town short of Karimabad. We made a quick stop there, stretched a bit and then continued on.
In Karimabad, Hunza we headed straight to the quite grand Darbar Hotel. The reception people were not very accommodating even with zero occupancy at that time.
Sitting in the parking of Darbar Hotel and planning, we were continuously looking at the highest lights glowing on the mountain a little further and remembering the road sign saying "Eagle's Nest Hotel".
Duikar is the name of the town beyond and above Karimabad. Home of the famous Eagle's Nest Hotel. The highest point hotel in the whole valley. So we came back to the road sign and called the hotel and found them very welcoming.
And then we started over journey up to Duikar. The road was good but the incline was much. Already very tired with our days toils that started with the DIY in Gilgit, the fun at Rakaposhi View Point and the drive up to Hunza on mostly 'tooti hoi' KKH, we just wanted wings to fly to Eagle's Nest and crash in our beds. and O ! before crashing we wouldn't mind a warm nice dinner either. yea, we were living on Chips and Coke that day till.
Low gear engaged, we continued climbing up and up towards Duikar. I was sitting in XJ with Janj at this time and apart from the cool drive up the swirling road, looking at the GARMIN GPS was equally pleasing. Every turn would take us up at least 50meters. We started at around 2000m above sea level at Karimabad and when finally at Eagle's Nest, Duikar the GPS was reading more than 2800 meters above sea level. That was a climb of more than 800 meters in just 10 Kms or so.
Like Darbar but minus the attitude, Eagle's Nest had no occupants either. It was off season and to our luck since we had no bookings. A little negotiation with a very courteous and welcoming staff and later the owner, Mr. Ali Punno, we had our rooms at Eagle's Nest Hotel, Duikar, Hunza and a very nice and warm "proper" dinner at a very beautiful, well maintained, 4 star Eagle's Nest Hotel.
