Yes gl4 is replacementbof gl3, dont use gl5 though as it is too slippery and causes gear clash due to synchro rings not able to speed up the gear properly

Hi.

i want to ask about tappet clearance, in general thinking COLD clearance should be more (in MM) to accomodate thermal expansion... but recently i m reading CULTUS SF310 manual, where i was astonished to read that cold clearance is LESS and HOT clearance is MORE ...

Logically manual is saying correct...in cold season there is low thermal expansion in metals so the valve clearance should be lesser (the tappet should be closer to the valve stem or valve cam) in order to obtain the same opening area of valve during the intake and exhaust strokes.

I need to know that how much play is acceptable in the differential of a RWD car?

My car has similar or may be more play and I am hearing a rattle-ish humming sound in my car above 90kmph to 120kmph.. which changes with acceleration or deceleration too. I have replaced U joints of the propeller shaft and have done balancing of it too (although I am not satisfied with the balancing).

@Xulfiqar sir i need a bit of your help regarding my toyota aqua.

My car had a petrol refill from Hyderabad and after being driven half a tank in Karachi.

I hear a sound of "karr karr" same like when u try to accelerate a manual car in upper shift gears i.e when car needs 2nd gear and we try to accelerate it at 3rd gear.

This kar kar sound comes when when i am moving. it come for a moment and goes away.

Is it because of bad fuel ?

Will the issue be resolved if i pour fuel injector or fuel cleaner system into a tank refilled with Hi octane ?

This Kar Kar is knocking due to bad quality fuel.
Try to fill up next tank from good pump and also add 10 hi-octane nothing else.
Hopefully it will be better

Should i get my petrol tank empty and then refil it with hi octane or simply dilute the tank with hi octane ?

What about liqui moly fuel system cleaner ? is that thing recommendable or will serve the purpose for it ?

Ahaan i"ll refill it with HI octane and apart frm this, i've always been using fuel from one selected fuel station PSO compnay operated.

Xulfiqar sir, can I swap D15/16 VTEC into manual city 2000 , what things should be taken care of? can you suggest a mechanic and Electritian in karachi near univeristy road/Gulshan/Johar area?

you have to consult the service manual of your vehicle plus if the driveshafts crosses and slip yokes are good and you still get a clunk you either have a bad play in the diff or the transmission / transfer case.

next step would be identify the part and rebuild it

I bought used a suzuki swift 2013
75k driven.
Engine and suspension un very good condition.
But there is almost zero power from 800-1500 rpm in every gear.
But as it goes up pr near 1500 rpm.
The car becomes live and pick is good.

Check its ignition and fuel system.

Short drives are the most difficult for the engine and the oil. Synthetic or mineral, dont keep any oil for more than 12 months.
You dont want your engine to end up gummy. Engine oil most definitely has a shelf life. In pakistani cities, most driving is stop start, over relatively short distances. Which means one should try to change oil at quicker intervals..

Is it true that cars from the pre 1995 Era should only have green inorganic coolant used in them? Or can I use new generation coolants

Brother in toyota vehicles try to use red ethyle glycol based coolant green ones are acidic in nature.

The 1995 cut date is just a reference point by american coolant sellers,

Real data is found in the service manuals, toyota used inorganic green till the early 1990, because by that time the first hybrid coolants had already rolled out by almost all japanese manufacturers (all supplied by ppi), This was a green coolant but was not opaque like oldschool green.

If you own an older car with dissimilar metals petrol fired engine and are good at maintenance, then oldschool green is best,

If diesel then old green is good but I would suggest fully formulated or HD truck/genny coolant.

However, dexcool formula coolants are great for both but slightly pricey in Pakistan. Personally I like to use Peak branded coolant, its global and final charge formula have never let me down and the stuff I filled years ago is still perfect. Rad caps never opened in years either.
