No I didn't removed D shaft. Tested it Installed, with a lever and they won't budge.

If I hold the D shaft to prevent it from turning then noise does not appear when I hit yoke. But when I release D shaft and hit yoke then noise apeears.

unbolt the shaft and then check it. Is the slip joint greased? - does this Dshaft have a slip joint?

@Xulfiqar sir it's drive shaft of Toyota Starlet with k engine. Don't know what is slip joint

slip joint is the tubular miling that goes into the gearbox tail. Its supposed to be greased.

when was the last time you greased the U joints?

I never greased it during my tenure of ownership since 2 years. Which grease they take and a grease gun would be needed perhaps ? But one has a zerk fitting and other does not have zerk fitting which is near to gear box

Sometimes the zerk fitting is on end cap rather than center cross.

You need to grease it with a wheel bearing grease. along with the slip yoke too, to grease the slip yoke, you need to remove the D shaft, wash the cavity clean and slather new grease in there (not too much though and the grease should be moly additized)

If you can provide me with any name of wheel. Bearing grease with Moly, then it would be beneficial. Or should I contact Zubair impex, I think they would have a wheel bearing grease .

buy the black cv grease tube from zubair impex and use it in slip yoke, (clean thoroughly first)

for u joints, any GC-LB rated grease works but you need a grease gun for it. Do you have a regular maintenance mechanic? Has he never worked on old RWD cars and trucks before?

Actually I am the mechanic repairing it's issues whatever it is. It will never go to any mechanic until it's undet my owner ship

BTW why not put CV grease in u joints ?

in U joints moly grease is prohibited as it prevents the rollers inside the cups to rotate smoothly. A buttery wheel bearing grease with EP properties is specified. (no need for high temperature either)

CVJ grease is too rich in moly and is rather thin NLGI-1 usually. It will be flung out of the joint very easily.

Ok, Thanks for your guidance, I will grease them and will let you know the results. BTW should u joint be replaced if I doubt that their life is almost ended.

Secondly how would I buy the new u joints from Plaza, because majority asks for samples(as experienced in other stuff) and I can't provide that. I meant to say is there any size specification for u joints as I don't know about it

If the joints are sloppy loose (play) or they are binding in rotation then you replace them. Ask some old parts shop for the "driveshaft cross" - they are same parts in starlet and corolla of 70s and 80s.

by reading most of this forum nowadays it seems that proper shops are dead or dont know mechanical repairs.

The steps in replacing U joints are pretty simple, but you need to wash the shipping grease out of the joint cups and stick the rollers back in carefully with new grease (if your new joint is non-greasable type). If your joint is zerk type then it needs to be pumped till you see fresh grease flow out of cup edges.

The white/clear stuff you see in new brand new U joints is just shipping grease and should not be subjected to normal working load.

you dont need to lubricate the hinges, they are teflon lined and are maintenance free. Keep them clean, applying grease to them results in dirt sticking to them which eventually becomes grinding paste and eats away the hinges.

there is a slight noise coming from the passenger side front door at a certain speed, a mechanic told me to apply some grease on the hinges. Car is only 30k driven. Is it due to poor quality of local cars?
